Hi guys, After replacing the water pump, thermostat, and hoses, the rover continues to overheat occasionally. I drove it for about an hour yesterday, and nothing happened. Today, coming home it overheated! Any ideas would be great! 88 RR Classic Thank-you |

Is your radiator original? If so it is probably rotten and not circulating enough. I would check that out, besides the obvious obstructions, fan is working kinds of stuff. Also do you have a winch or lights on the front. Also how hot does it get? |

also there might be an air lock in the cooling system. bleed off the air by removing the top filler neck on the engine block. is the thermostat in right side up- ie the giggle pin to the top? |

The thermostat is in the correct position. The Radiator is original. I took the front grill off to clean out some debris. The temperature needle goes up past the half way mark almost on the orange, but not quite. When I turn the engine off, I can hear a fan go off as well when it over heats. I have an ARB bar, but no winch or lights. I also had the radiator flushed three times. One other thing that I have noticed is the coolant overflow resivoir is some times full, and other times is near empty. I checked for leaks, but found nothing. Thank-you for your help! |

Sounds like your radiator is on its last leg. You can re-core it for about $200-$300 or just get a new one: http://www.motorcarsltd.com/item.wws?sku=IN102900&mfr=British&cookieID=0PS17151R &clientid=motorcars&clientid=motorcars http://www.atlanticbritish.com/ProductList.asp?Category=%7EALL%7E&Vehicle=RC&Per Page=1&ListType=DETAIL&PartNumber=ESR80

Thank-you for all of the help guys! Thanks Alan and Jon for the links. The speedycarparts looks like a great deal! I was also wondering if it could possibly be a blown head gasket? The overflow tank does have air bubbles in it when I open it up, but The engine runs smooth with no real noticable noises. Any ideas on that would be great. Thanks again for the help! |

could be a head gasket. check it quick or you might warp your heads and really be hurtin'. btw, that radiator is not a oem part, but john b. from rr.net says it checks out as being of quality build. |

Do a compression test for leaking head gasket. |

You can also go to you local Radiator shop and have them do a cemical test on the Rad fluid, this will tell you if it is a blow head gasket. |

Thank-you for all of the posts guys! The compression test and radiator chemical test sounds like a good idea. Hopefully the head gaskets are fine, and it just needs a new radiator or a re-core (labor on a head gasket is expensive)! Thank-you! |
