i have seen an overdrive on a grey market range rover. but will these or an electric type fit on an automatic 92 range rover.

The overdrive, built by Fairey, was for use with the 4-speed manual transmission available on Range Rovers through 1983 or 1984 (I can't remember which year the LT-77 5-speed was introduced). They were also found on 101FC's and the occasional Series III Stage I V-8. They cannot be installed on a 4-speed ZF automatic transmission.

o.k. then that answers my question. what about an underdrive system? i want to lower my overall gearing as the current set up is too tall

dunno about the borg-warner (there's a reason for this), but if you want a reduction for wheelin, check out http://www.4wdworld.com.au/products/maxidrive/i think GBR sells it also.
did you swap out gears?
