Hello all. I just got back from a 2700 mile round trip to Florida in my 97 HSE. The first leg of the trip we drove 1000 miles and only stopped for gas. At around 980 miles I noticed that while accelerating onto the highway between the switch of 3 and 4th gear you could feel the car start to slightly kick almost as it was starting to miss the gear. I decided to pull over at a gas station and let the car take a break for about an hour due to the fact that the tranmission and the whole car may be getting a little too hot. That seemed to help the problem, and all through city driving (bc I was only using 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear, the problem did not occur again) On the way home however, even when it was my first time to get back on the highway, the problem began again. It happens only when the RPM's are between 1500 and 2000, anything about 2000 and it is fine. When I slow down and the RPM's drop below 2000, it kicks again until it is at a lower gear. Is my transmission about to go out on me? Will a transmission flush help prolong the life of it? It had a transmission flush at the 120k mile service. The car is now at 126k. If it is the transmission going bad, is there an estimate of how long it will last before going out on me? If I continue driving on the transmission until it ultimately "goes out" will I hurt anything else on the vehicle that wouldnt have to be replaced if I went ahead and replaced the transmission Thoughts? Suggestions? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post. Thanks, Robert

Check your transmission fluid. The intense heat of all that driving along with the fact that the fluid may be old could be your problem. Good Luck !

Sound like more of an engine related fuel/ignition/stuck exhaust valves problem. Often appears as the transmission. I had a spark plug wire go bad in a '97 Discovery and it would buck/miss at low revs with high load (such as at highway speeds). Higher revs it smoothed out some and idle was ok.

Get your computer read at Autozone for trouble codes (it is OBD2 compliant). It will tell you if it is a misfire, etc.
