On my '89 rover EVERYTIME I go through deep water my distributor cap gets wet and the truck starts missing. I usually always have to go buy a distributor cap which is really annyoing me. Is there anything that can be done to water proof or is there a water proof distributor cap I can buy? Also, friends that have older models like mine do not have this problem so what's the deal with mine???? Thanks, Trey & Melissa Burns 1989 white Range Rover "Redneck Rover" |

Trey, are you using the genuine cap? I had the same problem. I kept purchasing the non-genuine (blue) cap from AB. I finally got the black one and it fits much tighter at the base and doesn't let the water in. You can try some dielectric grease maybe. Another thing that helped was a front skid plate: less water splashing into the engine compartment. Originally our Rangies had a plastic plate underneath to prevent dirt and water from entering the engine area (prevent some dirt and water not all). |

I have tried the grease and it did not help. But you are right I have been getting the "non-genuine" blue cap so I will get the "genuine" cap and hopefully that will work better. Spending the extra money on the genuine one will probably be cheaper than how many of the non genine ones I have been going through! LOL Thanks for the tip, Trey & Melissa Burns 1989 white Range Rover "Redneck Rover" |

It's quite common to put a rubber glove over cap and then feed leads through fingers that have had their tips cut off. Then tie ends of fingers around the leads. You can then seal with silicon if you want to go that far. You can also look at changing leads for some high quality ones, as this always helps. Cheers Steve |
