As I sit here thinking about the upcoming Easter J**P Safari, I begin to wonder how well the diffs on my classic are going to hold up. I am curious if anyone here has swapped to a Toyota third member? |

Sean. P4x4.co mis the right place to look, Also check www.outerlimits4x4.com and www.mcnamaradiffs.com.au I have been searching this is detail and this is what I have decided to go with (so far): 1. 3rd member casing by JacMac (bolts on the Rover axle housing, uses Toy internals) 2. Toy RD23 ARBs 3. Longfielded CVs (www.longfieldedaxles.com) 4. 30 spline x 1.31" Jac Mac axles 5. Precision or Richmond Gear 4.88 R&P (~400$ a set) 6. Some machining here and there The above set-up is FAR stronger than ANY OTHER that is based on the AEU2522/4.11s/MD 24x1.24"...AND, if you are starting from scratch (i.e. no lockers yet), its even cheaper! I am not an expert on the subject as I have YET to pay and install, however, after 2 years of searching and asking, this seems to be able to hold up to a mild (<200hp) engine on a Disco with 37". Nadim, Thanx for the links, But I have some questions, when using the longfield CV's do you have to machine the spindle or the axle housing? What are the costs of the JacMac 3rd member casings? |

Sean, I can't help you out on details since I have not done the mod myself and hence would not wanna give you info that I am not certain of. HOWEVER, Seems that with the 30 spline axles, you'll have to drill out the rear spindles 0.02, and yes, the front spindles must be machined. I was quoted for getting some second hand "CV-globes" (those shiny knuckles - forgot the english word) from Australia and get Jac Mac to machine them there and send them across along with the other stuff. No quote on the 3rd member casing alone yet. Their customer service is extremely bad. If your truck is ONLY for trail use, then I was thinking of a cheaper option for people that want to run this set-up: BCB part-time 4wd conversion (<300$), front Detroit, and rear spool... With that said, I'll stick to my ARB choice. Good luck. |

Nadim, I currently have the GBR 24 spline rear axles with an ARB, and the stock front 10 spline with and ARB. I like the set-up, just worry about the strength of the R&P |

Sean, I'm even worse off with the 10 spline stockers in front and the stock rear 24 splines and ARB in the rear, all with the weaker 4.7s. Since I've been wheelin', I've broken several stock diff pins, 2 rear 4.7s, 2 rear axles, 2 front axles. Therefore I consider myself "lucky". Note that these are DIRT cheap in Lebanon, however, I have not gone the MD/GBR way because I was not convinced, the JM system seems to be the RIGHT way to go about things, AND cheaper. |

They can't, they're based on the Toyota LOW PINION 3rd members. Should they be based on HIGH PINION, he MAY have a valid point, however, you'd have to convince MOST Toy owners all around the world |

Okay, I didn't know that they were based off of the low pinion 3rd members, that clears some things up for me |
