What all is involved in the swap. Is it pretty straight forward or are there some pitfalls.

My 89 has the LT-230 swapped in, but I didn't do it. From what I heard it involves trimming the consol and setting up linkage, but other than that I don't know.

It fits fine. You need (others may jump in):

- LT230 that has the VSS sensor (for speedometer and ECU) and reverse lockout hookups. This usually means a '95-'99 Disco. The Disco 2 LT230s may not have the VSS hookup or a center diff lock. Keep the handbrake on it as the backplate is different than the BW
- Front driveshaft from a donor vehicle (LT230 version is longer)
- Shift linkage from donor vehicle (mounts to back of trans like BW version)
- Right frame mount (different case size)
- Tail shaft for a Disco zf automatic (available from most parts houses) since the spline length is longer for the later zf's and therefore LT230s. You don't need the tail shaft if you use an LT230 from a <='88 RRC.

Trimming the console does not appear to be necessary (?)...let me know your results as I will be doing it soonish.

Its not "tail shaft" geoff , its "Exstension housing".... If you go ordering a tail shaft you will likely get an output shaft..

Kyle, I think then output shaft is the correct term - the thing that is splined for connecting into the LT230. The extension housing (if you mean the back of the trans that the xfer case bolts to) is the same for both xfer cases as far as I know.
