Any opinions? It's time for new calipers on a 91 RRC. I was wondering if there is any difference in performance and pedaly feel. Old ones are rusty and rebuild kits are more expensive than rebuilt calipers. New calipers cost $250-$300, rebuilt in the $60 - $150 range. The $60 quote is Autozone. TIA, Mark |

Hi Mark, I got a set of front calipers for my '89 from a local chain, Levine's, here in CT for $74.95 each. I am very satisfied with the results. In combination with Ferodo pads and Lockheed rotors the overall effect has been a marked improvement in both pedal feel and stopping power. I am sure that the calipers from AutoZone, even though less expensive (due, no doubt, largely to their superior buying power) will be just as good. BTW, I don't know if you remember me but we had a number of lively discussions last year ranging from the war in Iraq to politcal philosophy (Burke vs. Paine). I still visit freerepublic.com regularly just to keep abreast of what's on the minds of my right wing friends. I hope all is well with you and your family. Cheers, Paul Grant |

Hello Paul, Yes I remember you. Hope everything is going fine. Hope your family is well also. I haven't been out to the East coast since we talked. From those that I talk to it sounds like I haven't missed anything weather wise. Toooo much rain from what I hear. Glad to see you are still visiting FreeRepublic. Hope you join in someday as all "wings" are welcome, unlike other sites. Still want to buy you a beer someday. Thanks for the feedback on new vs. rebuilt calipers. I think I'll go rebuilt and use some good pads like Ferodo's. The only other item I will need to find are the rigid brake lines from the flexible lines to caliper. The pipes are so thin that when I try and turn the nuts the pipes want to also turn. Corrosion is so much fun. Good Evening/Morning, Mark |
