Currently have 245/75 16's MTR's on and I'm now thinking about increasing these to 255/85 16's giving a 33" diam. I plan on lifting EAS electrically by 1" to accomdate this. Has anyone done this?? If so comments welcome. Also anyone that has gone larger than 245/75's I would welcome feedback from them and how they performed on full compression on high setting etc. Thanks Steve |

I have BFG MT 265/75/16 tires on my P38, about a 32" tire. I had to remove the front mud flaps because of rubbing under certain situations, but other than that, no problems. I do however have about a 3.75" coil spring lift, which I could easily go to a 33" tire. The 32' tires slow the 4.0 a little, but not too bad, RR's are slow anyway, the 4.6 will be better. You may need more than a 1" EAS lift to accomodate 33" tires and maybe 4:11 gears to get some speed back. Axles and diffs might not like the 33" tires. To my knowledge, ARB is the only avaliable aftermarket diff and I don't think anyone makes an upgraded axle for the P38 yet. Hi Alan Thanks for posting. Front mud flaps are going this week anyway so they won't be a problem. I'm hoping that the reduced width by 10mm will compensate for the extra diameter of the tire. So 1" lift will give a high mode lift of 2.5" above standard. If I need more I can fit 2" spacers under springs, and then feed in a compensation signal to reduce it for on-road driving. Do 4:11 gears add some weakness into the drivetrain? If so I'll see how 4.6 copes with size of tires before going down this route. I've also not heard of anyone doing an upgraded diff apart from ARB. However, I'm not sure if this will be a problem as standard 90/110's seem to cope OK with 33" tires and the P38 diff and half shafts are supposed to be stronger, hence use in wolf and latest 110 models. Say guys, what do you all do to transport your larger spare with these different tires. My friend luke and I want to put 245/75s on his p38 but if the spare won't fit in the compartment, what can you do? having it in the back for an offroad trip is one thing but for daily driving where do you put it? Has anyone tried to hammer out the compartment and make it fit? thanks and happy trails. |

With a 245/75/16, you could let some air out of the spare and stuff it back in the compartment, just remember to bring an air compressor. |

I couldn't do this with mine, but i think Goodyear MTR's are bigger. I've taken out the well cover and mine sits in sticking out a bit and is strapped it. Alternatively you can mount it virtically on a bracket ala RR Classic. Most tend to strap them to their roof-rack. Cheers Steve |

A 3.5 inch lift and re-setting of the bump stops stops with the same amount of off-set stops this size from crashing into the P38A's body work when undergoing full articulation. |
