Does anyone know of a tyre manufacturer that makes a AT or MT type tyre for 18" wheels suitable for a P38? Please do not suggest buying a set of 16" wheels... |

Anyone tried fitting this size as I can imagine it is a fair bit taller than the standard road 255-55-18 that are on it now. |

It measures out to be 32.8" tall compared to the stock size which is 29". You will need to modify the EAS or use a coil spring lift. In any case I would say you need at least a 2.5" to 3" lift. I am running a 265/75/16 BFG MT which is about 32" tall with no rubbing problems and can easily go to a 33" tire, but I also have a 3.75" coil lift. Have a look at rangerovers.net: http://www.rangerovers.net/rrtires.html#mkii |

I still have EAS and untill it goes t1ts-up I`m not inclined to spend money on it so I`ll just settle for smaller tyres. Anyway I can imagine the local MOT station would probably like a word if I fitted coils, not too easy in Norway... |

Nitto Terra Grappler in 18" stock size are available from www.discounttiredirect.com. Surprisingly, this size is not listed on the Nitto website. I have not received an answer why. Here is a direct link to the tires. http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findTireDetail.do?step=details&productT ype=TIRE&source=vehicle&index=5&productCodeIndex=40241 Mine are being mounted as we speak. Pretty agressive tread pattern, but not crazy. Will be good for light to moderate off road, but probably not for true mud bogging. Gordon |

I also have a RR HSE with the 18" rims, and I have been searching for AT or MT tires also. Toyo makes a mud terrain tire that will fit on the 18" wheels. Check it out on their website, it's the open country MT. It's a 35" tire though, so you'll probably have to have a lift and do a bit of trimming to make it fit. Im currently thinking about upgrading to these tires. Has anyone had experience with tires this big on the P38? JP |

I think that the Toyo open country AT/MT are the same tires as the Nitto Terra Grappler AT/MT. The AT tires for each come in the stock size, as noted above. I feel that this is a very good way to get some extra bite, but without lifting, etc. Gordon |

Interesting that you ask. The car is still at the dealer, but the service manager says that they are some of the most agressive 18" stock sized tires he has seen. The reason I have not driven the car is thus: While in for the tires and LOF, I complained of a drip in the center of the car (I know, it's a Land Rover). Because I purchased the Land Rover Assured Extended Service Contract before the end of the four year factory warranty, I am only out $100 to fix problems like this, so I say why not? I am told that the RMS (Rear Main Seal) must be replaced, requiring the transmission to be dropped out, and the rear differential to be repacked. Total cost would be about $2000 from the dealer. Cost to me, $100 so I do not care exactly what needs to be done as long as it is fixed, and they perform the work. I call after the job is to be completed, and the service manager tells me that when reassembling the pieces, the technician noticed a porous condition in the engine block. The warranty company is called, they inspect the part, and a new short block is approved. The dealer is waiting for the warranty company to finally approve all of the necessary attaching parts to the short block that cannot be reused from the existing engine. Total cost at dealer at retail price, approximately $9000. Total cost to me, still $100. For me, the extended warranty from Land Rover that cost me $2600 plus tax for three years paid off very well, and I still have 2 years and 4 months to go. I will probably not have to replace this truck very soon, most of the parts being new and all. I also assume that even though it is a Land Rover Contract, that either some other arm of Land Rover or Ford is administering the contract, because they keep needing approval while under the factory warranty they would just fix stuff. Dealership has been great. For info, the car has 53,000 miles on it, and the head gaskets were leaking and replaced under the factory watrranty about 6 months ago. (Obviously now a wasted job with the new short block). I am not overly concerned with the time because they gave me a new '04 disco with 5 miles on the clock, but I expect to have the car back sometime next week. I will post my impressions at that time.
