Any of you hear anything good or bad about the NEW Defender? See the cover of the December 2002 issue of Land Rover Enthusiast... http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |

Well, ya that too, but I think it looks ugly. And not the good kind of ugly. I have heard talk that it is independent suspenssion. |

I read in one of the LR magazines from the UK that the Defender is going to basically be the same until 2010 and that it probably means that the US wont have any new ones until then. This article basically said the LR (Ford) is giving priority to the new baby Range Rover and the new Discovery due out in 2005/06. Not good news if you were hoping to get a new one any time soon. |

The dealership here said to expect Defenders in 2005 or so. I think the new Discos are supposed to be sharing parts/platforms with the new Defender and possibly the new baby Range Rover so I'm guessing they'll be introducing all three models within similar time frame. |

That recent issue talks about the model plans for the coming years. Updated, rounded Disco, baby Rangie, variations on the Freelander. But they report that the DEF "may" get scrapped by 2010, or something to that effect. Either way, it doesn't look like we'll see any updated version. That one on the cover, was some type of prototype. Purely concept vehicle. If you look at the inside cab, it looks like a freelander. |

Although, this all does not mean they will stop making them for the military contracts. All ready, they are being imported. It is possible to get a high mileage D-90 w/hard top and the 2.5L diesel for under $12k licenced here in the states right now. http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |
