Went out to start tonight and couldnt get the truck started, battery ok but the starter motor would not go. Then tried to move shifter out of park and couldnt get it to move. Any advice?

you didnt mention if the truck made any noise when you tried to start
if your 97 starter is like my 95 then it may be the female connector to the starter.
wiggle the wires to the starter while someone tries to start it. make sure you are not near the fan.
as for the shifter im not sure if the ignition switch controls the shift but you may want to move the steering column one way or another while shifting

the shifter is activated by a switch on the brake pedel.
