We keep breaking the antenna off mounted on the wing. Does anybody make a flexible antenna base to attach the antenna to, or a completely new antenna with a flexible base? TIA.

Dave-

I got a Rubber flexible radio andtenna at Wallie World about 6 years ago.

Colorado Pinion Pine and Georgia scrub brush resistant! Mounted on the side of my Series on right hand front wing.

Cost me a whole $10 ISTR. Not sure if still being sold...

Tried the flexible antenna and broke it off as well, finally went with a setup that enables the CB antenna to work as a radio antenna. Got it from an online CB store and cost about $15. Works fairly well as an antenna, but since the antenna is more protected (I've got it mounted above the rear license plate), I don't need to worry about it again.

Just curious, but what the heck are you guys doing to break your antennae?
They're not that fragile.

Hmmm.....

Our cat broke ours, the day we brought it home.

I've seen several snapped by branches, etc.

Hmmm...... Colorado, eh? Maybe that's why you haven't seen many snapped antennas.....

:-)

Wheeling in the narrow canyons and equally narrow trails we have here in Colo. provides many opportunities for one to snap an antenna. Limb risers are a necessary off-road accessory here because of the branches. Knowing that, I always put it down whenever I enter a trail. That is why I am curious. D90 antennas are retractable, unless a tree jumps out in front of you, it's pretty tough to not see it coming and prepare for it. So, what's different where these guys are?
I suppose if my head were turned and I was busy watching a sweet '77 "Bandit Edition" T/A drive by, I MIGHT miss the branch hanging into the roadway but what are the chances of that....?

lol....

Laura's quit retracting. That's why the cat could get up there to play with it, and bent it over.

Plus, if you wanna listen to the radio, you're on a nice wide trail, but going round the next curve you slide down against the bank, the last thing you're gonna remember is to cut the radio off to drop the antenna.... at least, I wouldn't....

We must be talking about two different things. The (stock) D90 antenna is not powered, so you're right, if you're listening to the radio and come around the bend it ain't going anywhere, regardless of the radio status, 'cept into that branch <snap>. That's why I put it down first and listen to my CD changer on the trail.
I'm afraid to ask: Just how big is your cat?
Name's "Bandit" right?

Yep...

The earlier Discos ('94-'96) have power antennas, which, BTW, IMO, aren't great. ('97-on have 'em embedded in the rear side-window glass.)

lol, first, let me be clear, *I* don't have a cat, lol.... we live on a farm, and every now and then, a cat would show up and start to hang out. They aren't pets, you can't ever pick 'em up, they just sleep on the porch, keep the field mice at bay, and run away if they see you. End up living here til they get hit on the road. Anyway, one of the dang critters must've taken a liking to the antenna.... we didn't see it happen, but, for Laura to pull up in the driveway, we ran inside for a minute, came out to leave, and bam, the antenna was bent over, well... it was a clear day, no falling branches or wild winds, we live near no one so it wasn't a passerby vandal, it just about had to be a cat... and they're not very big, really, not big fat cats, just scrawny barn cats.... but, lo be to the one who manages to get a hand on one.... basically, we ignore them, and usually they're not a problem....

I once heard that Radio Shack has a good flex ant. But, you had to do some creative rigging to get it mounted.
