I am looking to purchase a 1997 D-90 soft top. I plan on using it as my daily driver, and I drive alot! I think I found a nice one with everything I am looking for. Question is it's $28,000 and has 100,000 miles on it. What should I be looking for when I go check it out. Is 100,000 miles a problem? Is $28,000 a fair price for that many miles? Its scary because everyone is selling thee things over the blue book value so I don't really know what I should be paying. Any advice on what it will be like to own a d-90 would be appreciated. |

I don't own a D-90, but w/100k it's not worth 28k. If you drive alot the value will depreciate even more really quick. just my opinion |

the first thing you do when looking at a defender with 100k miles and a sale price of 28k is run and dont look back. I couldnt hold a straight face if i told some one that I wanted 28k for a 97 with 100k. 100k miles is a lot for 28k, i have a 95 with 34k on it and I would be willing to part with it for 28k. I think that 22k is fair, it all depends on the options. Look on ebay, there are a few going for that number with half the miles. best of luck, |

Joseph, I purchased a 97 D-90 soft top last week. It had 24000 miles and a certified LR warranty. The dealer put about $5000 to make it right. They replaced the main seal, transmission seal, oil cooler lines, the radiatior and about 50 little things. I paid just over $35000. At 100,000 you can figure on spending a heap of $$$ to make it reliable. I will tell you that the Defender is about the most fun vehicle that I have ever owned. Good luck....Dave

If you have 28k to spend, plan on spending only part of that on the actual truck and the rest on maintenance for reliability. |

Joseph, Offer the guy $20K for it. Keep looking because they are out there for half that price particularly with that kind of mileage. Mine had 100K on the odometer when I bought it but I only paid $15.9K for it. Also be prepared to do most of the work on it yourself, it's relatively easy for most stuff. And if you do find one, wheel it! Beat the hell out of it. There is nothing more pathetic than a shiny, scratch free Defender. The reason everyone is selling these bricks for over the blue book value is because there are idiots out there willing to pay $28K (or more) for a 5 year old truck with 100k miles that originally sold for a lot less. As someone told me whan I was first looking, "be patient, the right one will come along". |
