Any one have any suggestions? Is it really as bad as I've heard?

As bad as you've heard?

Check d-90.com. Their is an excellent write-up about how to do it and what's involved. Is it easy? No. But with a handful of people helping and the right parts, you can do it in a weekend.

Putting it on is harder then taking it off. The hardest part for me is if a bolt gets rusted over the winter and will not come off. Spray any bad looking bolts with penatrating oil the day before you take the top off to help. Other then that you will need 2 people to pick the top off. I took mine off for the first time 3 weeks ago it only took me 1 hour.

The problem is Sean; the fiberglass top wasn't really designed to be removed. Not in the sense of the J**p version. There are plenty of D90 owners who will argue this and remove their hardtops annually, but in time if you continually pull it off and put it back on, it will develop cracks. I suppose if you're very careful and store it in a safe place, it will last for some time, but I personally didn't want to deal with the headache so I sold my soft top D90 and bought a '97 station wagon version. Good luck,

Thanks for the responses. I've heard its an all weekend affair. Hopefully I will have Mike's luck and be able to do it relatively painlessly.

Art - I think I'm going to leave it off, if not forever, at least for a while.

Sean,
I too heard the horror stories and was worried the first time. Honestly it took me less than a hour. That hour also included bagging all the bolts with labels. I just took it off again this spring and it only took and hour. The key for me was to use a cordless drill with a nut driver. I wont have to worry about taking it off again because I sold it and replaced it with a Rovers North/Badger top:-)
