Here are the specs: 1995 D-90ST w/115K miles. LR roof rack w/ladder, ARB lockers front and rear, ARB brush guard, WARN 9000 winch, and Flowmaster exhaust. Engine seals are leaking and there is some play while shifting. What is a fair price for a beast like this. The person is asking 20K |

I am no expert but in my own humble opinion I think that sounds about right. I would run the VIN thru CarFax and find out the history. Good luck, I love my Defender......Dave |

The only thing I am worried about is that this will be my daily driver, about 100-150 miles per day. How much does it cost to replace all the engine seals or better yet replace or rebuild the entire thing. Thanks for the input |

Joseph, you are wasting money replacing the engine seals. Didn't you know, that is the built in rust protection system. All kidding aside, you will not be able to keep the engine from leaking-that is something you will have to learn to live with. I would wait until that engine is gone before getting another. You can buy a new shortblock, and have it assembled with you parts for probably $3000. As far as the transmission goes, you should have the updated input gear in your transfer case, so the mainshaft on the transmission should be OK. Most of the problems with the R380 that most people have is losing synchros, which are just aggravating. Transmission will still shift, just not as smooth. Sounds like a good price. Get the service history from a LR dealer, and make sure you get coverage from AAA or someone else, because 100-150 miles a day is a fair bit of driving. |

I would avoid commuting 100-150 miles a day in a D90 if I were you, especially in a soft top like that 95 you're getting. It's just not practical. Don't get me wrong, if looked after properly, it's very capable of doing so, it's just your maintenance will be more frequent, meaning more $$$! Also, the gas tank is very small, you'll spend a lot of time in gas stations filling up. The price sounds about fair, the condition could be better but the added off-road goodies definitely makes the price great. Watch out for the syncros as Chris pointed out, it could get pretty annoying. Good luck! Glenn |

I don't think that you would want to spend your money on the D-90 you described. I def would not put 100-150 miles a day on it. I don't put 150 miles every 2 weeks on my D-90. I think i would look around some more before making a decision. |

Jason 125 miles per day divided by 10 miles per gallon times $1.75 for a gallon of gas times 30 days is crazy,,,$656.40 per month in gas. Let alone one oil change per month and by this time next year you will have 160,000 miles -jim |

If it is mostly highway driving the mileage should be better than that. My commute is 44 miles (22 miles each way). I get 16 miles to the gallon. Of course I don't have a roof rack and the weight of a winch and heavy bumper on the front. I also keep my tires inflated to 35 lbs and don't drive over 70 mph. I also have a soft top for the winter but from may to oct its topless baby. Of course I also can't hear the radio once I am on the highway. Over 100 miles a day might get old only because the seats are not very comfortable. |
