I have a '97 D-90 and I need to replace the ball joint on the end of the steering drop arm. Has anyone done this and could you give me any advice on completing this job? Any tips, equipment used, etc. would be very helpful. Thanks |

I recently did this and had all the problems that could be possible Mine was real bad shape and had been for a while. The cups for the ball had rusted in and i ended up taking it to a machine shop to get the last cup pressed out. To do this I had to remove the arm which a regular pitman arm puller didn't fit so I bought one from auto zone and cut part of each side of the claws off so it would squeeze onto the arm to pull it off. Once you tighten the puller as tight as you can smack the side of the arm with a BFH and it should pop loose. if you are lucky you may be able to skip all this and just remove the C-clip and have the guts fall out. So tools: snap ring pliers grease hammer wrench(forgot size 17 or 19mm) tool to remove cotter pin(I used pliers) and if you are unlucky screw drivers punches pitman arm puller press assorted dies for pressing out the cups clamp to hold the guts in while you put the C-clip back on. pickle fork for separating the tie rod end from the drag link. I forgot if there was anything else. good luck |

Shane, Thanks for the tips and tools needed. And for the quick response as I am tackling this tomorrow. I hope that it comes apart pretty easily, but who knows?!! Thanks again for the advice. |
