Where is a good place to learn the differences between Defenders from the years '94 - '97? You can read a lot about the Discovery differences on this board but not much about Defenders. Thanks, William |

Have a look at this site (http://www.lrfaq.org/Defender/FAQ.Def.NAS_Defender_VINs.html). This far surpasses the ECR information. DJ |

Any opinions or experience of the mileage at which the timing belt on a 300Tdi should be replaced. The dealer recommends 48 000 miles (80 000 kms) while the Haynes manual suggests 72 000 miles(120 000kms) |

The 300 TDI is really a different ball of wax! This is mainly a NAS board, but for the best information I'd follow Leslie's advice and ask East Coast Rover (www.eastcoastrover.com) they've done many TDI installs and would be the best source of information that I know of stateside. DJ |

You can check the UK website at http://admin.emapsite20.com/nav?page=lroi.home The Tdi engine is extremely popular over here in Europe and you'll find a lot of infos about Tdis and TD5. The timing belt is normally replaced at 72 000 m. However, one must remember that some Tdis need an upgrade kit to stop premature wear of the belt... I did change the timing belt on the disco at 66 000. (my chassis number was in the recall list published by Land Rover). Better too early than too late... |
