k, guys, i must be going nuts for thinking about this, but here goes. i currently own a '97 Disco and a '93 Jeep Wrangler. i've only had the Disco since December. my intention was to have the Disco for travel (more room thant the Jeep) and light duty wheeling and build the YJ into a trail rig. well, i found a '95 D90 in the area that has 66,000 miles on it and the dealer (used lot) is asking $25,600. my thought is i could make some compromises, but consolodate my 2 vehicles into one. more room in the defender than the Jeep, but i still get a soft top and a 5 speed and i don't sacrifice off road ability. the only defender i have ever driven was a friends that was lifted 3" and was on 33" Buckshot mudders. assuming i could get all the details worked out (rigt amount on trade-in for the Disco, and i can sell me Jeep for what i want for it), what do you guys think? yes, this is kind of just on a whim and i'm not sure how serious i am, but i can't help but think about it. i really like the 90. and please, no cracks about the Jeep, alright? :)

actually, the Jeep is in better shape mechanically and electrically than the Disco. but i did expect to get some flack about the Jeep here, regardless.

that 90 will be no more comfortable than your wrangler...and not even close in comfort to your disco.

thanks Blue. i know the comfort level. not to worried about that. i lived with the Jeep as a daily for 6 years, so i'm used to it. ideally i would love to have a Disco AND a D90, but my bank account only barely allows my current situation with the Jeep paid off. was just shocked to find a 90 under 35K and even more so to find it in Lynchburg of all places. so i'm musing as to whether this is to good a thing to pass up.

A D90 *shouldn't* cost more than $35k, don't be shocked.... For a '94-'95 D90, $20-25K would be reasonable, IMHO.... and, Virginia has its share of 'em; also, since they aren't AS common, it's worth driving a ways to buy the "right" Rover. DC, Roanoke, Raleigh, all should be w/in a reasonable range if you start to seriously shop for one.

Think of a Defender as a classy Wrangler.... You'll have all the comfort of the Wrangler with all the reliability of the Disco wrapped in one. Don't buy it just because it's close and available, only buy it if you REALLY WANT it.....

IMHO, FWIW, YMMV......

PS: Clarification: Yes, you can always find someone wanting to sell a Defender for a lot more, and, you can always find someone willing to pay a lot more, but, that doesn't mean that they SHOULD command that price anymore.... over the past year, Defender prices have begun a price-correction, and, hopefully, will continue to do so. But, who knows, it's like the stock market....

:)

well, i really do want one. the luxury of the Disco really doesn't fit me (though i certainly don't mind it). the thought has also occired to me that i could wait till the new defenders hit the U.S. and watchthe prices of used ones drop like flies (ideally). the 90 in question is black and i think that i really want a yellow one. :) it would be nice to be down to just one vehicle again, though, especially if i decide to make the trek out to Seattle.

Yes you can definitly find D90's for close to 40k dollars. I just bought an immaculate 97 D-90 soft top with 20K miles on it. The owner never drove and the tires had 100% tread on them but were dry rotted. This vehicle cost me aroun 33,000 after my trade in. I have not seen but a handful of D-90s for sale for under 35k. Just thought i would throw in my opinion. :-)
