do you know if this is the same t-case that was used in the 87-88 range rovers?

He will have to check it might be a Q model depending on when in 98 it was made. You can make a Q work but you need a couple other parts

It will work fine. I have a '90 RR with a '98 Disco LT-230 in my beast. The '98 Disco has the "Quiet" gearset. This, of course, makes the T-case quieter.
