We must be. You don't see a Disco in 4X4 Evo, you don't see it any other off-road game I know of, you usually don't see Disco's mentioned when hose-head "automotive experts" review SUVs for web sites and magazines. Geez, I've wanted to be invisible all my life. All I had to do was get a Disco and *Poof*, I vanish. I used to wave at other Disco's, but I guess they couldn't see me. I just thought they were stuck up. Silly me. Well, gotta run. See you around. Or maybe not.

I think test drive offroad had them with a special cheat.

kinda of a shame, when fellow LR owners (particularly DISCO owners) refuse to lift a hand in a return salute! must be a mid-west thing.
By Slider on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 10:27 am: Edit |
Up here in the northeast...all the housewives bring'n home the groceries in our trucks think I'm hitt'n on them when I wave or smile...
God bless them...that allow LR to break even on sales!!!...I think??
By gp (Garrett) on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 - 10:49 am: Edit |
......and you are not hitting on them???
same deal here in PA. have one dude in a DII that waves and some old fella in a nice series IIA and that is it.
and there are more and more rovers i am seeing around in town, but still hardly a glance.
maybe i smell bad or something.

I gotta say it...Jeep owners rule! They wave all the time.
As for Rovers, the grand total is now about 6 or so for 2 years of Disco owning & waving. I think I get about that many a week from the Jeep crew.

Hey I get waved all the time. I got waved today on the way to work. And there's a girl who gives a huge smile at the same time and both hands wave, and I have passed her several times. Guess princeton is a happy area!

Hey Dean, I'm down in Cranbury today, what route do you take to go home. Maybe we can meet up for a few minutes. Let me know.

Slider,
LOL, I get the same thing. Always wave at other Rovers, only get a few back. A woman in a Disco looked at me like I was nuts then actually flipped me off when I waved at her a few weeks ago! Pissed me off; wanted to cut her off and explain what it means to own a LR

Hey Dean,
You work in Princeton? You're only about 20 miles from where I live. You could drop over one night and show me how to invert my spare tire carrier, right? And do the $2 CDL? (Two big hints there, bud.) I'll even buy Czech beer!!

Kent,
LOL! Yes, I guess that's a good deal!?!?
Where do you live?
Dean
Ps Are you going to Robesonia saturday?

I only wave at Rovers outside of Chicago any more. The people who drive them in Chicago generally ignore me.
I'd wave back, though if anyone ever was
un-cityfied enough to wave to me 'round here.

So do you wave at RRs?
By Carl E. Cedeholm (Cederholm) on Wednesday, October 31, 2001 - 11:45 am: Edit |
I wave at everyone, but I'm just hitting on them.
By Bud Lane (Hrrovr) on Wednesday, October 31, 2001 - 11:47 am: Edit |
Carl - Please DON'T wave at me. Of course, you probably wouldn't be able to see me anyway.

I've tried. Actually a few weeks back there was a VERY nice black Rover on Lake Shore Drive. This was an older Country LWB (I think, I'm not very good ID'ing RR's.) and it looked like it was very well kept up. I was impressed with it. Same thing though, not even a friendly glance.
I guess it's not a big deal here, though. Chicago is crawling with Rovers.

Sorry Bud, ...guess I should have been more gender spacific.

Got to tell you I waive at all rovers I see and the only waves back I get are from women over 45. Pretty funny, guys I wave at have their heads too far up their ass to see me or respond. First waive I got was from a 60 year old woman in a Disco II. Pretty funny stuff. Its nice though to get a wave. There are NO built rovers in my town though. I've only seen one rover not stock besides mine, a County Rangie, had a lift and dual ARB bumpers. Really nice ride.

I know, just the heaps of spare parts and wheels you see by the roadside. Damn factory workers

Dean,
I live over in Bucks County, PA, across the Delaware on 95, first exit, then north a bit.
Don't know about Robesonia, depends on when I get my vehicle back from the shop. Would love to go,though, just to watch. If Ron calls himself an idjit driver, well...can't think of what I'd be, let's just say several levels beneath that.

get many waves there in bucks kent? i use to live in newtown (right across from the Temprence House sp?) several years ago. did alot of work in the area. been to Kat Man Du in Trenton??? hehe are you in the New Hope area?
you should head to robensonia. should not be too much of a drive. i am heading from state college, pa. should be about 2 hours for me. less for you i would think.

Daniel,
I've received the same treatment in Chicago. When I wave to people, most people look at me like I'm crazy. 99% of LR owners in the Chicago area have never taken them offroad.
The other day when I was at a muffler shop, the mechanic saw mud underneath and asked "you take this thing offroad?" That's typical here.

Ditto for me in OC area, So. Cal. I should also mention however, that I've become just as bad ... my 8 yr. old son constantly spots Rovers, (all kinds) and by the time he says "Mom, you didn't wave," they are in my rear view mirror. I blow right past my own husband and don't even notice ...

I wave and they don't even look.. If they do look they don't wave back and give me the "Do I know you?" look. I wave to this one guy I see some times on the way to work who has an Yellow XD with $G sliders and he doesn't wave either. I say screw em.. Wave to them out on the trail and give them the one finger salute around town. Most people I see driving Discoverys around here (N.VA) are all soccer moms or are people looking for that status quo.. Not sure why they got a Discovery to try and look rich but, whatever floats their boat I guess. You would think that they would get the Caddy or a Lincoln.

> give them the one finger salute around town.
I like that idea, just for fun. I'll let you know what happens. Could be confusing if accompanied by a big smile
By Kent Westbrook on Thursday, November 01, 2001 - 11:19 pm: Edit |
Garrett,
Very few waves here in Bucks, more often the "who are you?" looks and the one woman who gave me the one finger salute. A guy in a Defender returned my wave once.
Yeah, I'm close to New Hope, between there and Newtown in Wash. Crossing. Had planned on going to Robesonia, but vehicle is still in shop.

Chicago people dont think of offroading in a DISCO
I have not recived a single wave from any disco or LR owner. Getting waves in my vette was getting
tiring, now those guys wave every vette they see.
If u guys tell me what your rovers look like, ill wave. Im usually in downtown and lincoln park area
during the week.
GOOD WAVING
p.s going to INDIANA BADLANDS SUNDAY anyone care to join drop me a line

Dean is that the same salute that NIVLOC pulled out. I don't know if you saw that thread on the j**ps board but it was pretty funny. That NIVLOC guy had some funny assed posts.
Waved at a girl yesterday, she had no idea what I was doing or who I was, oh well...

Bud,
We may be invisible, but as Horness has pointed out, we are Gods! LOL, my husband adopted that one when I told him about that ages ago. Now he says it all the time. Personally, I like that Rovers aren't over-exposed in this country. DiscoWeb provides the daily fix we all crave. As well as DiscoWeb stickers. And the Moab tape. LOL, how's that Axel? Enough shillin' for one night?
Karen ;)

I've tried waving, nodding, flashing (the lights of course) and even a thumbs up to a very nice D90 with some serious hardware fitted.
At best - I get a confused, bemused, squinting Discovery driver go by. With no wave or anything.
Bud - As a fellow games player - I've not seen a Disco or a LR for that matter in any off road game.
Could you actually imagine the developers getting it right though? May be worth sending them the Moab video just to put the record straight.
HRNESS (fellow God!).

Hell I waved to somebody I know and they didn't wave back. I don't think people are expecting an oncoming car to wave. RR owners are the worst. When I'm in the 4-6, they look the other way. I've only had one other RR wave back, and he had a winch on the front, hellas, RR adv rack, towing motorcycles. Series rovers ALWAYS wave back. time to get a series i guess
