94Rover,

Look at the side-turn-signals, and the door-handles, and the height of the rear lamps... definitely a D2....

Interesting wheels.....

is it me or does it looks so out of proportion....

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By lynden on Wednesday, October 31, 2001 - 12:35 pm: Edit

What is it??? Do they sell that, or is it just an advertisement for what they have??? I think it looks weird because the rear wheel is dropped a little, it makes it look jacked up in the back, I think that's what's making the proportions look out of whack.

How much mud does it take packing up inside those wheels to throw them off balance?

So am I the only one that thinks that it looks pretty sweet? Of course, who knows about my taste - I also didn't think the orange "Great Pumpkin" Disco looked just too bad.

I'll stay mute in my opinion. There are some parts I like, and some I hate. We'll just leave it at that. Those wheels are Centerline wheels, I think. Go to http://www.safarigard.com/stage4.htm for more info

The "Great Pumkin" needed stickers.....

I like the "Kalahari" on the side... but when you become flashy you 'need' a yellow (or orange) Disco instead... I'm not partial towards black for a 4x4....

Interesting wheels....

The wheels are beadlocks. Basically, you bolt the tire onto the rim. This allows you to air down your tires very low with less of a chance of popping the tire off the rim. Of course, the innner bead is not beadlocked, but this saves the outside bead from coming off.

I think it 'looks' sweet. But it's literally all show... Or so they say at the above mentioned $G URL.

I wonder if $G needs Disco owners to test their prototype Stage IV kits.

Just a dumb question here - wouldn't be better to have the air intake face to the front? This way you at least get a positive press at the entrance instead of a slight vacuum.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Leslie N. Bright (Leslie) on Thursday, November 01, 2001 - 10:34 am: Edit

Depends....

In a very dusty environment, having it face rearward helps prevent a certain amount of air-borne debris from being ingested into the filtering system. Downside is, as you said, loss of a "ram-air" effect.

In not-so-dusty conditions, forward is better....

IMHO- If you were outfitting a vehicle for expedition, as this one pruportedly is, you'd be completely insane to build a black on black truck. Imagine how damn hot that would get out in the desert, etc.... There's a reason those D90 and 110 roofs are white ya know....

WEll its obviously not for use , its a showboat. What confuses me though is that on the site they state they are building it with Land Rover. Seems to me Land Rover would want something that still resembles a Land Rover. I guess they are shooting for the "Cool" market.....

Kyle,

"with Land Rover" could mean "with a Land Rover dealership", and not necessarily with LRNA...

IMHO....

Come on Kyle. That is still a Land Rover. Are 32's the max to be considered "functional, sensible, and within the constraints of a Land Rover purist". It is possible to be cool and be a land rover. I think your bumper looks cool, but that don't mean it ain't good.

Look at it Tom ! Its a freak....I am more partial to the land rovers that scream "Dont tread on me" real work horses. You know , the ones that got us here. Land Rover is a legend , to call it a legend means that it has aquired a reputation in the past. Look to the past and see if you run acrost any of those freaks....

Oh yes , post a link to that Ron and compare the two... That says "Dont tread on me" . This one here is saying "Help , I think my springs are sagging!!!"

Wait wait....

What I see is a black DII... SG bumper & skid-plate, HID lights, a snorkel, a roofrack that is actually holding stuff, and beadlock-rims. Only "goofy" thing is the Kalahari sticker, and I have to admit that I kind of like it.... only downside to it is that it would have to be on a black truck, and black (as mentioned) isn't a good color for expeditions....

Not a 'bad' truck at all... just a not-so-good camera angle, nor a great paint-choice...

I DO like the "Don't Tread On Me" reference... I actually have one of those flags somewhere.... hmmm.... wonder where it's gotten to? Must be in one of those boxes in storage.... might just go diggin' later....

What do you mean by 'it ain't pretty'!

I think my yellow $G beast is very pretty, and it works great with tons of $hit on the rack.

Returning from Canada, the pickup that was with me caught fire. The yellow beast handled a very heavy load for a few hundred miles without any problems. (4 guys, 10 days worth of gear from the back of the pickup and from inside the boat it was towing)

Granted all that crap put a strain on my suspension, and brakes, and everything else...But I still made it the rest of the trip.

Personally, I like the looks of the new show truck. It was built for shows, or in easier terms, to look cool.

And what terrain did this trip have in it? Rad my post again ... Also , didnt you just take all the $G suspension components off of it? They were for sale in the for sale section...

Kyle

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Kruger on Thursday, November 01, 2001 - 03:59 pm: Edit

It is true, the suspension has come off, but it went down with a fight!

The terrain was Midwestern muck, rocks, downed trees, churches, gray gravy, and a duck.

Sounds like it was all road driving with the stuff on the roof. And from the brushes I have had with the suspension they sell (Top of the their line) it aint got much fight in it to start with....

think anyone over at $G has ever been to the Kalahari, let alone conducted an expedition through it?

Well.. I still think my Stage III shocks WERE good shocks (before they got bent into pretzels) except for all the clanking they make.
The kit starts to go downhill with the springs and mounts.

hehe.. because at one point YOU told me they were good shocks. Just bad shit around them.

Yes on some tube frame monster that you haul around on a trailer would be sweet with those shocks. Just not a reliable every day kinda shock.

That truck is as much Rover X as it is $G...either way, it makes us look like idiots. This is why Jeepers on the trail never expect anything from our trucks or our skill.

I'm ashamed.

Brian
