I'm contemplating painting my hood a flat black.
Anyone done this as opposed to putting the black decal on the hood? How were the results?

The genuine decal has a tendency to fade/peal/bubble... painting usually has a better effect (note: 2nd-hand info... I've no experience w/ either first-hand.... yet!)

BTDT.
2 ways to do it.
1. use Krylon Ultra flat black in the spray can.
(this is really nice if you can get the spray even.)
2. use flat black in a can with a lint-free high quality roller.
(if there is lint on the roller, you'll get little pube's on the hood.)

Danno - that's a nice looking finish - which of the two ways did you do it?

Hey Danno, how much do you charge to paint?
By Danno on Monday, November 05, 2001 - 07:46 pm: Edit |

Danno, when you say "roller" do you mean a paint roller, like the ones used to paint walls? Excuse my ignorance ....

I have had very good results using the Rustoleum Industrial Coatings spray paint in flat black. I got mine at Home Depot. It cost about $4 and won't show any blotches or anything. Atleast it didn't with anything I have painted. Also, if you happen to overlap, it won't show. Again, it didn't on mine.
I have painted the hood, touched up bumpers, and other misc. add ons and have had nothing but good results. Heck, my steels wheels are even painted with the stuff. Take it easy. JH

yes, a paint roller. spend the money and get the best, one that is "lint free" or something like that.

Why black out the hood?
Is this for roof light glare?
or sun glare?

both

I say just wear shades at night and leave the truck alone.

I've been thinking about painting mine black, too, and then spraying it with that non-slip rubberized coating. That way stuff won't slide off the hood! Might never come clean, though.
