Hello to everyone in the Land Rover world. I just bought my first Rover, a 1990 RR and want to get it dirty. Does anyone in the Northern NJ, Southern NY area know any good places to offroad a temporarily stock rover? I would also love to get together with anyone who offroads in the area...
Thanks Pete

hey pete-
welcome and you are a brave man! there is another pete that has a older rangie too and he does amazing things with it off road - but he's out on the left coast. i think you just missed the big rover event of the east coast but you should still have fun out there.

Welcome Peter! I'm in Bergen County, NJ and drive a 99SD to the trails at least once a month. There's quite a few of us here in the NY/NJ/CT/PA area. A couple of months ago we went down to the Pine Barrens (exit 7A?) off of the NTPJ. Check out the pics in the trails section of Discoweb. They actually just did another trail run today (11-11-01) up in the Sullivan County area in Upstate NY. Unfortunately I was not able to join them today Anyway, I'll keep you posted when we go next. In the meantime, stick around and enjoy Discoweb!

Welcome to the Discoweb. I'm in Somerset County NJ and have driven with Glen in the Pine Barrens. If you want to hook up with people to offroad with just keep checking the trail information section of the BB and you will be offroad in no time.

Hey Peter,
I think Dean ,another Pine Barrens brother, is dreaming about a Barrens run soon. Keep watching the boards. "...hope you like mud"
Glenn, Larry, you guy's were missed up in Sullivan County. John planned a great day, with some very fun trails.

Peter,
You're hearing from all the NJ/PA brothers of Dean's Pine Barrens Adventure Society. Sounds like they had a great day up in NY. Unfortunately, like Glenn and Larry, I wasn't able to go. I did get three days in down in VA, though. And...unless they've changed their plans, I think Dean has designs to hit the Barrens this weekend.
Carl, Dean? That still on?

Kent,
I think we are going to hook up your CDL first, then I think Dean wants to toss some new mud on his truck to wash off the old mud.
It a new trail he dosn't want to try alone. (no one to hold the camera)

You guys are funny.
Yep, this one is a scouting mission, in prep for another trip a bit later. Still on.
Not much rain recently though

Hey Dean, I see a Fiat Fiorino or a Renault behind that 109 in Spain. Was that your 109? If it was, how come it's so clean?
Boy, your love for LRs started at an early age, huh?

Hey pete, where in Northern NJ are you? Maybe we can do some mall runs! Lot's of malls with some very technical parking lots in my neck of the woods. . Those parking lot curbs can be pretty tough on our suspensions.
Seriously, if you live close by we could probably hit some trails localy too. I know a couple....

Hey Glenn,
Local trails in north NJ?? Spill, man, where are they? Holding out on us?
Carl and Dean, I'm ready for Saturday, just let me know when.

Check out those short - LOL! Yes that was my first rover, in Spain in the photo. I was supposedly on my way to Algeria, until the accident.... But anyway, we had a nice time in Europe anyway. Hadn't rained for months that time, hence clean look. It was mainly on-road stuff though.
Kent - should you chance to come across your EMAIL some time in the near future, you'll see we're on for Saturday for your CDL and a bit of the pines.
Pete - welcome to the group. I'm in somerset, cnetral NJ. YOu could come with us on Saturday if you like, only we're gonna be fixing up Kents super-rig at my place first so might not be clear whet time we would start.
Check out those short - coming from Glenn! He he he he

Kent and my disco brothers,
"Local trails" are on dead end streets that lead to "illegal" unpaved roads. Just enough to give you an off-road fix specially after a good rain. One in particular is in Lyndhurst, NJ which is frequented by ATVs. As some of you may know, I mountain bike a lot and I frequent Ringwood, NJ. Ringwood has been closed officially for Off-road motors except for Mountain bikes and hikers. We found a trail somewhere in the pipeline areas off of Ramapo Lake that have some steep (very steep) and rutted downhills with loose rocks on some portions. The pipeline eventually leads to an open area below route 287 (by exit 56 - pompton lakes) with interesting river crossings and some race course that ATV people created. It should be an interesting run, the only problem is I got there on a Mountain bike. I have to try and go back there and find a way to access it with our trucks. I'm sure there is a way as I saw some tread paths on the ground. I might be riding there this weekend(mountain bike), I'll survey the place and look for some kind of "entrance" while you guys scout another trail for us down in the barrens. Then, we'll check back here and see what we found out. Cool?

Hey Peter,
You're not far from me at all...I'm in Rochelle Park, NJ a couple of blocks from Garden State Plaza. There are some interesting mini trails by you as well. My neighbor who drives a lifted GMC pickup was telling me about a trail up by you. But according to him, they got chased by cops the last time. That's one thing I really want to be careful, I don't want them closing up trails because of irresponsible off-roading. Tread lightly...
Although, I will check that trail that I mentioned above this weekend and see if we can hit it one of these days...
later!
P.S. Route 17 south (in Paramus), there's a Land Rover Shop in a Getty gas station that has modified Rangies, defenders and a green 109. From what I heard, the guy's pretty good as far as mods and repairs are concerned.

Genn,
The place on 17 you are talking about is called Import Specialist and the owners name in Vinnie. He just finished doing a major repair to my tranny. He does great work and at a much cheaper price than any dealer or major shop. I would highly recommend him if you need some major repairs...
Let me know how that trail turns out...

Glenn,
Sounds like there might be some good stuff up there; never spent much time in Northern NJ but I got to believe there's some decent trails. I know about the short-term "fix", had a place close by I used to go but they're turning it into a housing development. I'd like to avoid cops too. Or irate property owners!!
OK Dean, I've been irresponsible, I'll check my e-mail. Bad shit happening at work so LR Internet time has been minimized.
