I was thinking about udating my 97 DiscoI, I looked at the D2, was impressed, but did some research and heard that the 4.6 V8, a locking center diff, a new dash/upgraded interior, and an new grille were all coming starting mid model year 02.
If so I'm waiting.
I've read some posts mentioning the 04 series III disco, and that it's going to be a ford expolorer chassis. If so, I will not be in line for one of those!
has anyone heard any contraditions or confirmations of these rumors?

I also heard the the top of the line will have the 4.6. The CDL is a rumor, but hopefully it will prove to be true. Don't know about the dash and grill. Make sure you opt for the HK sound system if it's avail. It sounds great.

Yeah...I drove a d2 this weekend on and off road...loved it even with the 4.0 motor which was way more powerful than I expected...and a Ford based Land Rover???? Give me a break...I'll be out for blood....

The 4.6 engine won't be in the Disco any time soon. It really is going to happen, though. Mid-year 2002 wasn't ever even discussed. There's no way LR is going to put out 3 new models in the same year. If you're looking at replacing the DI with a DII, you might as well do it now, and not wait. I have a feeling it's going to be a while before the "DIII" is out, and who wants the first model year, anyway??? By the time it's out and not a major web of problems, you'll be ready for a new rover.

Have had my new 2002 SE since Nov 16 and loving every minute of it. The engine is more powerful than I was led to believe. The ride is really sweet and it is built like a tank. Everything is working well. If you can, do it now and enjoy!

I was under the impression they had modified the center diffs on the later D2's such that they could not be locked (as had been the case with earlier D2 trucks). I agree it was a silly move on their part. Even if it is Ford based, I doubt they'd be dumb enough to go IFS/IRS on a Discovery.

They will if they think that is what the market wants.. As long as you have people crying about wanting a truck that drives like a car you will have people working to turn them all into IFS/IRS land yachts. Then the greenies will be happy too cause then no one will be able to go off roading in their IFS/IRS junk mobile so the trails will all close and then they can dance around like the little fairies that they are in their own happy little forest playing with their happy little trees in their happy little greener world. Damn that sucks...

discodan

if you can afford a new disco - get in line for the new kalahari - the yellow one - not the $g!

this will have lots of cool stuff - and supposedly a CDL.

best of luck either way
