I was there a number of years ago I took a group rafting and camping. We had a blast and I would love to go back.

When we drove to the river we used these roads which were explained to me as unpaved unmaintained roads, so we thought no big deal and imagined a county road out in the country. Well, lets just say that we drug a Volvo, Geo, Tercel and S10 pickup over 4WD trails. It took a few hours for everyone to forgive me for making them drive down the roads.

I am looking at a map and thinking about a nice week long trip along the 4WD trails with camping, hiking and playing in the river. Any experience out on these trails?

Here is a nice map

Hey Jeff,

I've been to Big Bend a couple of times---I love it. I wanted to go back this year, but opted to go to Arizona instead.

Big Bend is beautiful this time of the year---I would highly recommend a trip back, especially if you go to the Basin and do some backpacking.

However, if you go there looking for any challenging roads, I don't think you will find any in the park (the roads get rough and washed-out but not to difficult for a vehicle with higher ground clearance). I think Black Gap road is the only 4x4 only road. I would still drive the roads, through, as they go through some wonderful country. Also, go across the border to Santa Elena, they have some great mexican food over there.

I have a few pics from Big Bend in my gallery if you are interested.

Chris
