I've been looking at some 97-98 Discovery's and have some questions. My family had a Series 2A when I was growing up and I've always wanted a LR. I have a few concerns about daily living with a LR and thought the best people to ask would be actual Owners. Any help will be appreciated.

1) How's the gas mileage - I know EPA is 13 - 17 but what do you really get?
2) How's reliability? I know Carpoint gives the 98 Disco 5 stars (out of 5). Do you experience frequent problems that affect drivability or is it just rattles, squeaks, etc. I see varying info on this subject on the web (but then again there's a web site for practically every car made that states that the car is lemon and the dealer is a crook)
3) How's maintenance costs? Does it have a timing belt or a chain? If it's a belt how often do you have to change it? Any expensive maintenance that is specific to LR? Does a LR eat tires, brakes, etc, or is it pretty normal?
4) How's warranty service - should I buy an extended warranty? Is dealer service generally good? - I live in NC.
