Just a quick question. I've been to the Pine Barrens
plenty of times, and have somehow always entered around the same area off
of Route 72 (Near that old railroad bridge) south of 70, and exited around
541 or 546 or something? I forget, in Atlantic or Ocean County. Anyway, does
anyone have knowledge of some nice trails for my stock Disco 2 LE? If so,
please e-mail me at PntShocker@aol.com with any help. Thanks a lot! Pics

I wouldn't take that brand spanking new Disco into the Pine Barrens! Stick to some nice dirt trails instead of sand and water.

I was down there a couple of weeks ago, in Wharton State Forest. I pulled off 206 at the Atsion ranger's office, there's kind of a little park there (on the left if you're coming south on 206), and a number of trails that wind through the woods. They were just sand and not demanding at all (no mud, no hills, no rocks, no water), though it was a dry day. There were some side trails that appeared to offer some challenges; I took a couple to play in some sand. If anyone knows if maps exist of all those trails I'd like to know about them because I can imagine it'd be fairly easy to get lost in there. Seems like somebody (can't remember who, maybe Chris vonC) said they had maps at the ranger's office in Batsto Village but I didn't make it there.

The Ranger's office has a map of the area. The best spot in the Barrens is up around Apple Pie Hill - lots of cranberry bogs!

There is also an area west of 206 in the Ancora Bogs - little sand hills and water holes.

The area where all the pictures come from is outside of Wharton State Forest on private land (You contribute some money to help plant trees and open up the gate). Can't remember the exact location.
