BTW, I have a 3'x5' Land Rover banner that might be useful. I bought the darn thing from ebay and up to this date am wondering why I did. I guess we could use it. I'll bring the damn thing anyway.

Glenn,
Earlier you mentioned meeting at the rest area south of 13A. "Between 11 and 12, you thought"...this would be better for me, exit 16 would put me in the wrong direction. You and John could meet me there on your way, say 9:10-9:15?
Let me know if this works for you.

Carl
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 06:06 am: Edit |
Carl and all,
There are a lot of details in the other thread concerning when and where to meet up. Here is the clipet of info:
Lets plan for the following:
Stop and Shop, Easton Ave. @ 9am
Turnpike service are between 9 and 8A: 9.30am
Turnpike service are between 7A and 7: 10am
206/70 10.30am
206/Carranza Road 10.40am
These are very optimistic times, but I will definitely NOT leave or pass any of these places earlier than these times.
It would be best if everyone can let us all know which place you want to meet up, then we will wait for you if you are late (and you will also know if we are late too).
Carl - for you its best I guess to meet us at the service area between 9 and 8A going south, at about 9.30 am. Please confirm this, then I will wait for you till you arrive (within reason!)
Everyone should expect delays on the turnpike, and maybe try to get there a little earlier.
Call me on (732) 610 9630 (cell phone) in case of heavy delays. Or CB channel 33.
By Carl E. Cedeholm (Cederholm) on Tuesday, September 04, 2001 - 07:22 am: Edit |
Dean,
9:30 sound fine with me. I'm still waiting to hear from John and Glen...

Will 9:15 give us time to meet Dean and the boys at 9:30 @ exit 8a-9 (rest area?) I heard from John, he was concerned about this. I told him we could meet sooner. John????

Yep, that'll be cutting it a little too short. How about 8:45 - 9:00? That should be okay and give us enough lead time. As long as everything is okay, I'll be there that time. Please remember to print the "offline" emails with our cell phone numbers just in case...
3 days and counting down....
By Carl E. Cedeholm (Cederholm) on Wednesday, September 05, 2001 - 05:37 am: Edit |
Glenn,
I have your number, not John's....I'm sure we'll hear from him soon.
8:45!! I'm there! Damn, no drinking Friday night...that's OK it'll be worth it!

Guys,
I will try to post a short summary of where the trail goes, and what to see, a little later, so check back afternoon. If not, I'll print a few out tonight.
My prayers for heavy rain / tropical storms didn't come about, so there may not be much in the way of mud, so the trail will be mainly sandy roads. There will be at least one 'puddle' that is too big to run, although I'd be happy for someone to prove me wrong! (I will wade through again, just to show how deep).
I'll bring the video camera for fun, and will post the results on discoweb soon after.
Check back later,
Dean
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Friday, September 07, 2001 - 08:01 am: Edit |
I just want to do a final head count, because I would rather not have to contact the park super (if over 20).
We have:
Dean + Debs, Stop&Shop, '01 D2 Black
Carl+1, 9-8A turnpike, '99 D2
John+3, 9-8A turnpike, '88 RR
Kent, Rt 206 / Rt 70, '99D2
Glenn+2, 9-8A turnpike, '99 D2 w/banner (hope to see it!)
Larry, Stop&Shop, '96 D1
Kyle B, Stop&Shop, '00 D2
Dom C Rt 206 / Rt 70, '97 D1
Steve+6 7-7A turnpike Isuzu Trooper
That makes 22, which we might be able to scrape by on with a bit of luck.
Please let me know ASAP if there are any changes.
See y'all tomorrow!
Drive safely,
Dean
Ps which CB channel does the motorolla work on?
By John C. on Friday, September 07, 2001 - 03:15 pm: Edit |
Last min update:
My wife and daughters will not be going so you can remove 3 bodies from the list.
Also, I went to our NJ office (Exit 8A) and noticed that there is no rest area on the South side of the Tpke. Am I missing something here? I will meet Glenn and Carl at rest area between Exit 11 and 12. FYI, it took me 50 mins to get to Exit 11 from Tappan and 20 mins to get to exit 8A (driving 60-65 mph). So Glen and Carl I guess 9:00 would be fine (Exit 11 & 12 rest area).
See you tomorrow.
John

Oops. Sorry - then lets use the service area between 7 and 7A, or whatever comes first after exit 9 headed south. Shouldn't be a problem. I'll go to all areas between 9 and 7 south anyway.
Dean

Carl - LOL!
Shouldn't be a problem finding you in the green dragon!
By Dean Brown (Deanbrown3d) on Friday, September 07, 2001 - 04:49 pm: Edit |
There are two rest areas between 9 and 7:
http://www.state.nj.us/turnpike/service.htm
Alexander Hamilton (located at Milemarker E111.6 between Interchanges 16E and 15E)
Thomas Edison (located at Milemarker 92.9 between Interchanges 12 and 11)
Molly Pitcher (located at Milemarker 71.7 between Interchanges 8A and 8)
Richard Stockton (located at Milemarker 58.7 between Interchanges 7 A and 7)
Walt Whitman (located at Milemarker 30.2 between Interchanges 4 and 3)
Clara Barton (located at Milemarker 5.4 between Interchanges 2 and 1)
These are all southbound.
So anyone meeting on the turnpike lets get to Molly Pitcher between 8A and 8, and forget about the 7A-7 area. Time about 9.30 to 9.45.
Remember there may be heavy traffic. I have been caught on saturday mornings EVERY TIME so far.
Have a nice evening,
Dean

I agree, hats off to Dean for his organizational and mapreading skills. And I enjoyed meeting everybody; hope we can do it again.
I spent a couple of hours cleaning yesterday myself, including wet vacuuming my wet carpets, but it wasn't too bad. Haven't done any waxing or buffing yet to take on the scratches.
BTW, Glenn, about an hour after you left, Dominick noticed your wife's Navy baseball cap bouncing around on my bumper. If she wants it back let me know and I'll send it to you.

Hello all,
I just sent Ho a pile of photos from the Barrons...I doubt he can post them all so if any one wants a set I can send them to you personaly. I have reduced the size of the images to post on the web, but if you see one you want printed, let me know and I'll send the full size image. The file size of the reduced images compressed are about 5.4MB keep that in mind if you want them all. I think there are some good shots, and I hope you enjoy them.
I'm sure Ho will let us know when he has had a chance to post them.

Dean and Glen,
Did you guys get the photos I sent you?
Carl
By Glenn Guinto (Glenn) on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 - 07:39 am: Edit |
Thanks Carl! I did get them. I'm glad to hear that you and your family are fine. I read your posts on the BB about the WTC incident and it made us a bit concerned. About the barrens, yeah we should definitely head back there soon! Although, I really want to see that place where Axel and them other guys go to... (that "hilly" part - check the other p-barrens pics).
Dean - how's about planning another one....
Axel - JohnC told me that the hilly place in the barrens is a private property and that you or somebody from discoweb knows the owner.(?) Can you join us next time around and possibly go there? Thanks!
By John Cinquegrana (John_C) on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 - 09:04 am: Edit |
Hey Glenn, I'm actually planning a trip up North (not too far up north). How do you guys feel like "stepping-up" the pace a bit? The trees are starting to change colors up in Sullivan County and it would be a pretty view from one of the mountains. The place I have in mind has some nice hill climbs, nothing too difficult and it even has a few sand pits.
I'll email you with more details.

Kent, All,
Good to hear from you guy's (here and off line) My wife and most friend are fine, thanks. Life is slowly returning to normal. The national guard has finaly left the area, but security is at an all time high. I am checked by six people before entering my work, (that's with electronic pass entry only).
Must say it was a good but erie feeling to see Humvees on Wall st. (wish they were Rovers)
Anyway, Kent I'd be happy to send you some photos, just give me the photo number and your email address.
Glenn the ones I sent you are the "small, for the web set" If there are ones that you want for printing let me know and I'll send the larger files.
Hope to drive with you guy's soon
Carl
By Axel Haakonsen (Axel) on Thursday, September 27, 2001 - 03:21 pm: Edit |
Glenn:
The hilly part really isn't that hilly, and two of the areas we used to go to have been shut down. The private area is also up in the air, as the owner is having some problems with the state.
I'm not opposed to taking a run in the Barrens one weekend, I just don't want anyone to get all exited about an area that may turn out to be a disappointment.
Axel
By Glenn Guinto (Glenn) on Thursday, September 27, 2001 - 03:39 pm: Edit |
Axel,
Thanks for the info man! That's too bad they've been closing all these trails. Anyway, It'd be great if you could join us next time. It's nice to go wheelin and get "real world" advice from one of the gurus of Discoweb!
-glenn
BTW, my service advisor from LR Parsippany (whom I introduced to Discoweb) claims that he remembers working on your truck one time. Is that were you got your truck?
