Hi guys,
I need a little info from all you out there in AZ. A friend of mine and I will be taking a trip this January starting in TX and going through southern NM, AZ, then north to the four corners and back home. We hope to do a lot of off-roading along the way. I have been looking at the web sites of the national forests that are around Phoenix but it appears that many of the roads are closed during the winter months. Since I have no first hand knowledge of the area I was hoping that you guys could recommend some great areas to go off-roading in January. Just to let you know, I will be looking to off-raod anywhere between Phoenix and the eastern side of the Grand Canyon then up through Monument Valley. If you guys have any input that would help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chris Condon

I've been all over north of Phx to Grand Canyon and east through Monument Valley, Moab, and beyond. How much time are you plannin on spending from the time you hit the Phx area until you exit into Monument Valley?

That part is actualy still up in the air. We are trying to plan a super flexible trip so we can do interesting things as we come across them. We will probably plan our trip to be 10-15 days and may spend between 3-5 days in AZ depending on what we find to do

That's plenty of time to see the good stuff. You have to hit Sedona & Flagstaff, and I think I may have to hit it with you . There should be snow up in Flag & maybe Sedona, too. There are a lot of wildlife trail closures in the winter - best thing to do is contact the particular wildnerness area's Ranger office for info. I have a list of Ranger offices on my workbench somewhere...I'll see what I can dig up.

Thanks for the info Bill. Company is always welcome! If you do have a list of numbers I would be interested to see that. I'm thinking it is probably going to be pretty cold for most of the trip--so I will definitely be ready for some snow. As we get closer to winter and our trip starts to take shape I'll let you know the particular dates during which we should be in AZ.
Thanks again!
