As per Dean's request :) let's start a new roster list for those interested in going upstate NY on Nov. 11:

John C. - 88 RRC - slighlty modified
George S. - 89 RRC - highly modified
Frank P. - 94 D90 - modified
Bob C. - D90 - slightly modified

We will probably meet at 9 or 9:30 am at the Rest Area (off of Rte 87) in Sloatsburg, NY.

We will be checking out a new trail so I don't know who easy or difficult it may be. If it is not accessible then we will do the old trail.

All are welcome except for troublemakers! :)

Hey Dean, if you come with us we can show you what George did for Norm in order to get his CDL locked.
Also, you can get alluminum knobs from www.4wd.com, I use them on my CJ7 to control the fan, windshield wipers, etc.

Later.

I hope to fabricate a linkage setup in the near future.

a stock 97 Disco. What would be the basics needed
for a trip like this?

Cheers Brian

Requirements: Good attitude, good sense of humor..... :)

What tires do you have? How much tread left?

I think stock LRs can handle most of the trails here in the Northeast. It's always a good idea to bring some spares, tools, straps, food and water. I usually carry most of my tools and my friend Frank brings the food/water/snacks/music.

Just one thing we do require and that's offroad etiquete....10 trucks in 10 trucks come out...don't matter how long it takes us we all wait and help each other.

John,

Man this is torture watching this thread!. It's like I'm being brain washed. I must RESIST...RESIST...RESIST...!!!

Telephone conversation with my parents earlier:

Me: Hello Mom?
Mom: Yes Glenn
Me: How are you guys doing?
Mom: We're good, what do you want?!
Me: You're grandson says he misses you...
Mom: Oh that is so sweet of him...
Me: He's wondering if you can take him out...
Mom: Take him out where?
Me: You know, anywhere...Nov 11 will be perfect...
Mom: What's Nov 11?
Me: That's a Sunday...nothing's special about it... perhaps you can take him to CCD and wait for him there, afterwards you guys can go out...(fingers crossed)
Mom: Why do I sense that you're trying to pull something?...
Me: What are you talking about?
Mom: You're up to something aren't you?
Mom: I really do think you're up to something...call me back later, we're busy!...

...Stay tuned, I might convince her... hehehehe

John

As for my tires, brand new pirelli scorpion s/t.
Think they would do? I also have the recovery gear, shovel, and basic tools. As for spares, nothing really. What should I carry? I definetly have the good attitude and a good sense of humor.
I'm also for offroad etiquete and of course treading lightly.

Brian

Also just to verify it would be for Sunday 11Nov.

Man, you all are killing me! That looked like a fun trail but I can't make it 11/11. Only positive is I'll be coming back from an offroad trip in VA that weekend.

Hopefully I can make the next one. And good luck Glenn.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Glenn Guinto (Glenn) on Friday, October 26, 2001 - 10:38 am: Edit

Good morning guys! Kent, too bad you can't make it there too! I'm still under negotiations for that day. What makes it interesting is my cousin is in the market for a D2. If he gets it before then, I'll definitely do whatever's possible to be there. This will also be a good first "official" off-road trip for him and his D2. (he was out trashing my rig at the dealer happy-day last week ) Anyway, if I don't get to go, you guys have a good run!

P.S. As much as I'd hate to, I'll be lurking in and out of this tread and be tortured as you guys plan the trip out

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Cinquegrana (John_C) on Friday, October 26, 2001 - 11:11 am: Edit

Brian , yes Nov 11 and the tires are fine. I don't think you will need spares on such a new truck. Usually it's us older guys that break something.

Glenn, maybe we should set up a Video Conference for you to watch from home.... :)

BTW, what did your cousin say about your rig at dealer happy-day? Just curious..

hmmm...I wonder if I can get those two little guys to do a 69!!!! :) :)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Glenn Guinto (Glenn) on Friday, October 26, 2001 - 11:32 am: Edit

That's a good one with the video conference John. (sure, torture me some more )

My cousin was quite impressed that he is now in the market to get one! He is mostly impressed with the fact that my rig is bone stock! Except of course for the Discoweb Sticker which helped a whole lot in getting thru the toughest trails. He was also amazed with the cult-like following the Disco's have compared to other "off-road" vehicles. Simply put, he had a blast @ my trucks expense

It's probably the only stupid trick I know.

I just spoke to Frank and his mechanic says his rear yoke is shot. He was having the u-joints replaced. I checked with RN and they only sell the rear driveshaft for $360, you guys have any ideas other than replacing the whole shaft?

It's a 95 D90. Also, I will be heading out to his place on Friday night to fix his brakes (pistons and seals need replacing).
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

John C.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Brian Jackson (Nerover) on Wednesday, November 07, 2001 - 11:48 am: Edit

You talkin the slipyoke on the rear driveshaft or something else? I say go ahead and buy a nice shaft from GBR. The joints on them are cheaper and stronger anyway and with his lift, it might get rid of some of his vibes...

Brian

I just don't see what would fail in a slip yoke. He can't flex enough to pull it apart, unless he sheared the splines, I can't imagine what he did.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Cinquegrana (John_C) on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 - 08:54 am: Edit

Glenn, unfortunately we did not take any pics at the small mud hole (it was dark).

One thing everyone should do is take a pic of their truck (during the day obviously) BEFORE washing it (that is of course if you do wash it). I love walking out of my house on a Monday and looking back at my RR with all the mud and dirt and battle scars (not that I had any).

BTW, Mongo and Todd (Maine) ended up doing the new trail. Mongo said it was pretty rocky. Those guys waited for 2 hours at the other Stewarts. I should've been more specific in my email and told them to meet us at the Stewarts in Wurtsboro. I really feel bad because those guys traveled long hours to get to the trail....

Sorry guys! I really feel bad about this. I hope one day I can make it up to you guys.
