Hey guys!

I finally found the trail I mentioned from the other posts. You guys are going to like it there! There are actually two trails close to each other. One is basically a flat piece of land with a river crossing and a few articulation spots and mud holes. Provided we go there after a good rain, all the mud dogs would have fun! It's basically a big playground. There are lots of ATV-ers though. At first, they didn't really appreciate that we were there but after they saw my dare devil cousin Guy and his brand spanking new D2 doing the river crossing, they all thought we were nuts and thought we were cool?! Go figure!

The second part is a pipeline. We weren't able to do this but John gave me directions and after talking to my neighbor yesterday, I kinda got a good sense as to where it is. Pics of this trail can be found on John's post from the other thread. So now, all we need is a date and a roster of trucks and people.

By the way, John, I wasn't able to call you since I can't remember where I wrote your number. I tried emailing you twice but I guess you were pretty pre-occupied. Anyway, thanks for the directions! Dean, I saw the PB run you're organizing, unfortunately I already have commitments for that day . (geez, I'm getting to be a party pooper aren't I?)

Pete,(NJRover) it was nice meeting you yesterday! That was a nice mall run wasn't it?

Glenn,

Count me in. Sounds like fun. So when's the day then?

Glenn:

Dare Devil? I don't think I did not do too many crazy things. Maybe if you look at it that my Disco still has the temp plates and I really haven't had any experience doing real off-roading, I guess you can say so. In the realm of some of ther others that follow DWeb, that stuff is just a walk in the park.

Too bad my digital camera is not working properly these days. I need to either get it fixed, use the one at work or buy a new one. Once I figure out how I am going to convert my video to mpeg, I can post those I guess. Any ideas anyone?

One thing about this trail is I think with the amount of ATVers, three LR's were just enough. Any more it may seem crowed. If we had the equip to drivee down the stream confidently, I think we can branch off to some really nice trails and leave the ATVers behind.

Guy,

Axel and Ho prefer .rm format - its more compressed. I personally prefer mpegs, since I have a fast connection, and the quality is better. Also, many cameras now have mpeg facilities, so maybe this will help convince the bosses!

Dean:

Thanks for the info! I currently still have no way to create either since I don't have a capture card and Glenn's All In Wonder Pro card is on the fritz. And you know the anoying part is I got my digital camera to work the next day! I really got to get that thing fixed.

Glenn and Guy,

Nice wheeling with you guys. Keep me posted for the next mall run...

I just talked to a friend of mine about the ringwood trail and he said that it was closed by the Mahwah police. I don't know if its true but I'll find out and let you know...

Glenn,

Are we talking December?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Glenn Guinto (Glenn) on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 - 01:35 pm: Edit

Yes, it's gonna have to be december. I'm looking at either the 15th, 22nd(cutting it too close to christmas) or the 29th. All are Saturdays for now. So, I'm throwing those dates out in the air and see what floats. This trail is only about 20 minutes from my place. A good meeting place for our South Jersey and NYC folks is at the Garden State Plaza mall parking lot. This is on Route 17 in Paramus. Us North Jersey and Upstate NY or CT people can meet in Mahwah somewhere.

John, you're more familiar with these trails than most of us, it'd be great if you and your family can come. I know December is quite a busy month for all of us, so if December is not good for all, start throwing some dates. Depending on volume of people, the ATV trail might not be feasible unless we break into groups. I heard that the "other" is more suitable for us. I'll try to find more info about it and post it here.

Meanwhile, anyone knows where I can get decent tires for cheap? (235/85/16's Maybe BFG MT's)

235/85/16? Pep Boys, look at the Futuras. Very good value.

Glenn,

Ringwood is closed, so I would take this to private email, unless you want a hundred trucks following you on illegal property. We don't need cops and DEP trolling Discoweb looking for places to shut down!

Axel,

Thanks for the info... I'll check Pepboys for these tires. Later!

Okay guys, I just heard back from Brian. That trail is one of the "officially closed" trails that the Mahwah Police patrols constantly. In the interest of not getting everyone in trouble, this trail run would have to be cancelled. I guess we'll have to keep searching... Anyway, tread lightly!

Glenn

P.S. Anyone looking at this, please check out Dean's post regarding Pine Barrens for an off-road fix.

John, we gotta do that ellenville run soon! Later!

Hey, is it the trail in Ringwood that is closed or does that include where we went? I think we can still have great time in the "playground"! Plus, I think we just needed to explore a bit more. I am definitely up to going there again! Too bad no pics for others to see. :-(

Hey Glenn,

Sorry about the closure. Never mind, we'll sort out something.

I had a dream last night - I heard on the TV there was to be continuous hurricane-force heavy rain for 5 days until Sunday Well, you can imagine my disappointment when I awoke! Wow, man this rover stuff is really gettin to me don't you think? I need some pills...

I mentioned on the other thread, if you guys can find a date soon then it would be fine to do anther pine barrens run after the Dec 2 trip. Saturdays are best really. Glenn - i I know you're the difficult one, so when can you make it next?

Dean

Guy,

It's just the Ringwood Trail. It is called Stag Hill and it's closed.

Our "Playground" is still legal...

"...when back up to Ellenville the other day 11/24, and there were private property sign all over the place."

Oh man, it looks like they closed another one!

"...Glenn - i I know you're the difficult one..." -from Dean

Dean, you mean, "pain in the a$$"?

That's really unfortunate to hear about a trail so close to my area be closed.. And you're right about Saturdays Dean, they always seem to work better for me too. Anyway, Dean and group... you guys have a good run!

Later!

Glenn

could the closure have anything to do with hunting season? there were quite a few trucks up there.
