Any possibilty that you'll offer this in a DVD format in the near future? I'm thinking long term, as soon everyone will be talking about VHS like they now talk about BETA.

Also, a tape wears out the more times you watch it. However a DVD burner is about $700 bucks. Not as cheap as a VCR. That reminds me. I got to order one of those when I get home.

In the near future, no. In the kind of low volumes we are dealing with, it's not cost effective.

Axel,
You guys have enough processing power to do CD's in a decent resolution? Even cheaper than video cassettes and shorter copy time...

A video CD is a possibility, I suppose. We decided on VHS tapes for now, because it is the medium with the least amount of compatibility issues.

I want one, but I live in the UK, and the format is different. (NTFS Vs PAL)
My DVD player is multi-region, however producing these is gonna cost you guys way too much.
If you have it in digital format, how about a cut down VCD version? An 80 min CD will hold about 45 minutes of decent quality video footage.
Also - some (not all) DVD players will play VCD's (mine does) out of the box.
Just a thought.

Axel,
Best to ignore PAL format as it would be a waste of your time getting a PAL release, if hardly anyone orders them.
I would concentrate on the VCD format though.

I do have a multi-system vcr and a scan converter, the problem is that the end result just does not look that good. There are too many artifacts, and the movement is not fluid. The scan converter is a digital prosumer version thhat I have had for a while. Getting a pro converter is too expensive at this time.
There may be a way to convert the digital master files to PAL, then run the tape right off that, I'm looking into it.
VCD's is an option of course, but they only hold 74 minutes, the video is 81. Of course we could put it on two cd's, i suppose..
Stay tuned.

Axel,
Let me know I have a few VCD's under my belt. I have transfered a couple of VHS tapes to VCD. Quality looks good let me know if you want to see a sample. Also if you dont want to take on this project alone or simply dont want to learn it, just say the word. I have plenty of computers and fast burners

Axel,
You could try 80min CD's (?)
I would spent the time looking at VCD rather than another VHS format.
You could remove a little to squeeze it onto an 80 or 74min CD. Let people know the running times.
I for one am interested in a VCD format. That way I could play it in my DVD player, or on my laptop! WhooHOO!
If you guys need a UK representaive, let me know, I have a fast burner etc.
Take Care.

I wouldnt worry about the video being just a min longer.
Cdr's and Cdrw's can over be over burnt by a min or two. Meaning that a CDR that is 80min can hold upto 83min. Might sound hard but it really isnt.
Here is a link if you want to read about over burning.
