I'm looking at buying a used brush guard off of a friend of mine, I called Land Rover and they said that my 96 Disco should have no problems bolting on, but he said that I'm going to have to get a "bumper guard piece", becuase of the way something is recessed? It doesn't make any sense to me. I was just thinking that all I need is the guard, and the bolts, and it'll bolt right on and that's it? Am I wrong?

You don’t even need bolts, but he may be right. There is a difference between the bumpers from one to the other. The piece of plastic he is referring to comes up to the bottom of the brush guard. The BG bolts right into the frame with the existing bumper, you may need longer bolts, but I doubt it.

That plastic piece is important, if only for aesthetics. The two bulges on the original plastic piece stick out too far for the brushguard. You'll need a plastic piece with recessed sides so that the bg can be pushed far enough back to reach the frame mounts. Have your friend give you the plastic piece off his Disco that goes with the bar. Give him your original piece in return. Or, if the right plastic piece isn't available for some reason, just cut sections out of your piece. I still have my original piece that you can have if you butcher yours.

Check it out:

Your right front tire looks over inflated.

Thanks,

I have fog lights too, will I have to modify/exchange the plastic piece that holds the fog light as well. I noticed that there are holes that look like they may be designed for the brush guard to fit through. Is this a right asumption as well?

Tire pressure was around 60psi. Photos taken fresh from tire shop with about 1/2 mile on tires. They're load range E @ 80psi...I dropped front to 49 and rear to 41 for on-road, and will run about 20 off-road.

Brush guard may/may not fit through lower plastic air dam. Just cut out a section if you need to. The plastic cuts like butter if you have a cutting wheel (simple mandrel and cutting wheel on your drill is all you need).
