Do you have a Costco or Sams club in your area? When I was looking a few years back, the local Costco was about $20 cheaper than anywhere else.

Where did you hear that? Less then two weeks ago I emailed BFG looking for stocking dealers here in LA and they sent me 5 names with no indication that the tire was going away.

Oh yes, they still make them. But they're considered "commercial" tires, mostly because they're too rugged to be considered SUV tires.

My fault for "jumping" out of the gate guys. Obviously, from the other posts, they are still available. I got that news from a fellow Rangie owner who just tried to buy some. NTB told him they were no longer available in N.A. (so he went up a notch to the new MT/Rs -- I'll have to break the news to him).

Are BFGoodrich All-Terrain ta ko tires as good as the trac edges? They seem to be better built. A lot of people run All-Terrains for looks without really knowing that they are a good tire. Which is better to you guys? The guy at the tire shop said that the All-Terrain is better than the trac edge.

This is just one guys opinion, but I've run the BFG MTs, ATs, and TEs. Of those the TE was my favorite all-around. The only place the AT is better than the TracEdge is in sidewall strength (3-ply v. 2-ply). As far as best all-around traction (mud, snow, ice, wet roads, dry roads), the TracEdge can't be beat. They perform very well off-road. I've done some nasty hill climbs (read: very steep, soaked clay, the-rednecks-saying-there's-no-way-you're-climbing-that-unlocked type of hill climbs) with the TE's where anyone with the ATs (& even a some with MTs) never saw the top without a winch.

As far as MT/Rs go, I've been running them since January & they are awesome - IMO, far better traction on both rocks and in mud (I'm on the east coast) than the BFG MTs. It is definately an off-road tire, but does amazingly well on-road. It'll be difficult to convince me that there's a better tire for off-road use that you can run 80mph with to the trailhead and then wheel with that kind of traction.

Not to confuse the situation, but don't forget the Dunlop Radial Rover RT's. Same type of tire as the trac-edge, but i think they may have a stronger sidewall. Anyone?

Anyway, a lot of folks run em and love em! I was going to go with these until I decided on mud terrains...

I had a chance to compare the MTR's with SS TSL's back to back on Jeep Cherokees almost outfitted the same.

The truck with the SS TSL's and just the stock limited slip outperformed against the truck with the MTR's and a Detroit!

This was in conditions mixed with snow and mud. I saw the truck with the MTR slip and slide where the TSL's gripped and sticked. Of course, there were two different drivers, but they were both experienced off-roaders. The guy slipping even had more time behind the wheel.

However, the latest issue of Petersen's 4Wheel & OffRoad rated the MT-R's better than the TSL's, but named the SSR's #1.

I'm always up for a healthy "debate", especially those that involve Rovers, trail rides, tall tales and campfires . . . we're headed to Tellico in the next month or so - interested?

I went with 245/75/16 heavy duty 10-ply, load range E (3,380 lbs). I've had catastrophic failure of Goodyear Wranglers, so I'm holding a grudge. Time will tell with the MTR's (all feedback so far has been great, I must admit), but the XT has been around for a while. Not too popular out your way, though.

Tellico sounds great, but the 1,950 miles between me and the trails is a little tough...
