Wonder what type of engine oil people driving DISCO TDI are using. Is it the synthetic, semi sync, or natural dinosaur oil?. I have been using straight dinosaur for the past 45k miles and is considering switching to full sync. My previous change interval using dinosaur oil is 3k miles. How much can I push this interval?
Thanks for any input.

I have a tdi with 217,000km and change the oil/filter every 5000km currently using Penzoil 15W/40, its nice, not too thin giving top end clatter like Shell or Valvoline... At the price of synthetics in Auz it would never be profitable to use synthetic, unless you held back oil changes until 12,000km or more... thats a big ask?

Rom!
If you change from dinosaurs to chemosaurs, you will probably experience lot of "mud" in your oilfilter for some time...the synthetic oil cleans the inside of the engine so the sludge is left in filter. This indicates synths are better than dinos. But intervals are main thing: do not let price of chemosaurs fool you into too long intervals. 7500 km seems OK for chemosaurs.
You will also experience some oilleaks for some time. Some experience improved revs on idle (indicating cleaner running).
So if changing to synth oil:
* Check level & do not park in garage unless having lots of paper under your engine.
* Do your 2.oilshift sooner than oilcompany claims to get the sludge out of your oilway and get rid of the oilfilter.
The engine can virtually run on "any" oil, just check the factory-specs on quality of oil (Check under "Disco-Specs" on my site).
