I was talking to some tire people and they said that you should not air down radial tires because of their weak sidewall, is this true? They said only bias tires(i.e. super swampers) can be aired down safely? I have been airing down my stock tires for the past year whenever I go off-roading( I air them down to 18-20psi, and air them up again using a portable air compressor) and the tires seem fine.

I just needed a conformation, I really don't trust my tire shop here.

Oh, well in that case, it's fine to deflate your radial tires for off-roading, then inflate them for road use. i've never had any problems.

Actually, although I've never had a problem, it's realy not fine. Radials have a fundamental design flaw that makes them come apart like a cheap mop from WalMart; airing down helps this process along.
