I am looking at getting rid of the factory airdam but I really like the extra light I get from the driving lights during everyday (ok nighttime) driving. Is it practical/legal to mount some nice Hella 1000's. on the brush guard. I would assume since they are 55 watts they put out roughly the same light as the stock driving lights but being up that high do they end up blinding everyone in oncoming traffic. Sorry still learning.

They would be fine. In fact you can take the bottom lights off the air dam and mount them to the brush bar.

PS you can also use the stock wiring to power aftermarket lights assuming they are only 55 watts
