Last weekend, i went to check the numerous oil levels in the Rovers. First up was the gearbox (R-380) in the Disco. Pull the fill plug and out pours a quart of nice, clean fluid. I hadn't checked the level since the dealer installed a new gearbox last August.
Anyway, it is possible for oil reservoirs to suck in water, but this was nice, clear ATF that poured out, not the mayonaise one gets with water ingress. So, how does one get an extra quart in a gearbox? Kinda like trying to fit 16 oz of beer in a 12 oz glass, if you follow.... The only way I can figure is that the box was filled laying on its side on the shop floor.
Cheers
