My resonator puts out a steam like smoke after driving for a short distance. 1. It only happens after the initial start up until my first short destination and then it does not happen for the rest of the drive whether short or long. Any ideas...LR mechanice at LRR stated this is fairly typical.

The steam is coming out of the little whole in the bottom of the resonator. I just had all new gaskets and seals put in....Gasket overhaul kit etc. If anyone has experienced this or no what the deal is or if it is just normal please let me know.

Sorry for the mispellings...long and hot day!

That's normal vapor from your exhaust. It occurs at start-up mostly because the hot exhaust gas is heating your cold exhaust pipe and creating condensation, in addition to the vapor created by your catalytic converters. After the cats and exhaust system reach their normal temperature, there's no more "cold" vapor to be made, and you'll normally see water dripping out of the tailpipe. It's really evident on cold mornings (since the warm vapor hits the cool air and makes lots of steam), but it's not unusual to occur on hot days, too, especially if you've just started your truck for the first time. It's really nothing to worry about.

I think you'll find this is all absolutely normal and occurs on ALL cars when first started from cold and as Jon says, especially on a cold day.

Don't worry about it.

Will, have you never seen it on other vehicles?

Thanks guys!

I have never seen it on other vehicles from underneath once you stop the car.

Thanks,

Will

I have seen steam from vehicles that were almost driven far enough to evaporate all of the moisture and them let off steam like a pressure cooker. Pretty normal I'd say
