Saw this over on d-90.com. GCR 16x7 rims for $61. Not bad!

I would highly suggest getting the 15x8x for the following reasons
1. cheaper ()
2. 15" tires are cheaper
3. 15" tires are more abundant
4. 15" tire sizes are more variable for the fit
5. perfect offset!
just my thoughts and experience...

Does GCR have the 15 x 8in in stock again? Last I checked they only had two. 15x7 are the real cheap ones. Like 54 each or something.

The 15x7's are out of stock. As of 4/30/01, they are listing the other 2 sizes in stock.

Greak out that wallet, dude. You've got to be the cheapest mother fucker in Land Rover Community.

Yes nadim,
But 15 x8 is too wide for a Q78 or P78 tire my choices for the 110 and the RR respectively. What I need to know (and suppose I should call GCR and ask) is how the offset works between the two. ie is the 15x8 an inch farther out than the 16x7, giving a 2in wider track. If I could squeeze it on the 110 I would like to run 37 x13.00 Boggers in which case I would go with the 15x 8, however that would mean Major sawzall and probably mean that I would have to majorly beef up my front axle and also probably have to add spacers to the lift on it already. I just like to be able to turn around so I can't go too big. My first task is to work out the rear susupension on it before I make my tire and wheel choice. To be honest I think I am going to stick with the plan for Q78 ground hawgs on it but the new bogger size has got me thinking. As for the rangie, it is riding on ghetto 245 75 Baja Ats now on the stock rims and I wish I had a better turning radius so I think I want to get a set of the 16 x 7 and run P78 hawgs or maybe buckshots if I run it on the street too. The thing is already ridiculously tall for a daily driver that I don't plan on taking off road much (almost new OME HDs and it has no extra weight so it is like 2.5in over stock). But since I just got plates on the RR a couple days ago it might take me a while to work it out.
Ron
PS thanks to Keith for the shorter rear links idea, specifically how RWs are shorter, due to the way my body on the 110 is set up (body is a 1964 109 from the bulkhead back) shortened rear links will better center the rear tires in the wheel wells.

Bill,
I am the second cheapest. Q is by far the cheapest. Seriously though. A Q78 16 LT hawg is 156 plus 61 (on sale) for the 16 x7
A Q78 15 LT hawg is 144 plus 54 for the 15x7. Thats like 80 less for 15s rather than 16s.
The only reason I can afford to do as much as I do is because I am smart about stuff. I like 16in tires better but 80 better, I dunno.

I have both the 15x7 and 16x7.
I think the 15x8 is a bit too wide for most of the tire sizes that folks tend to put on discos.
All three rims have the exact same backspacing, of 4.25". I have measured all three.
I don't think there would be any noticeable difference between the vehicles footprint on the ground when comparing the same set of tires on a 15x7 vs. 15x8.
I chose the 15x7 for the same reasons Ron is talking about. I have skinnier tires. Although I think the 15x7's could accomidate tires 10.5" wide or even wider. It would be a nice, tight hold.
Like Nadim pointed out, the other nice thing about the 15" rims is that they are cheaper, and it gives you some more tire options. In addition, more tire and less rim is a good thing for being offroad (although more rim and less tire is better on)
When choosing tires, however, you may find exactly what you want in a 16" rim when it comes to width and diameter for a particular tire model that doesn't have a correlation in a 15" rim. Basically, a lot of tire makers don't make a "tall & skinny" for a 15" rim. A persons best bet is to focus on a size that they are looking for and see what the manufacturer offers in 16 and 15 and go from there.
Tom
p.s. Sorry for the rambling, but I spent more time choosing tires/rims than I spent choosing where to go to college!

Tom,
Is back spacing the distance between the back of the rim where the lugs go through to the inner edge (like what would cover the brake stuff). If this is the case then wouldn't the 15 x 8 give a 2 in wider track width (1 in per side).
thanks
Ron

Ron,
As I think through it, the rim may be a bit wider, but the inner lip of the rim is the same distance away from the car (i think that is what you stated). So, yes, the outside of the rim would be 1 inch farther away.
However, when you mount the tire on the rim, I don't think the center point on the tire would be out 1 inch farther away from the car because the inner lip of the rim is in the same place. Maybe it would be a little bit, but not that much. The sidewall would move out an inch, but not the center. The impact of this maybe is variable depending on the width of the tire. I dunno.
I think the backspacing would have to change to 3.25", to acheive a full 2" wider stance.

Guys...
I am very fond of 15x8s, simply because this xmas vacation, I purchases 5 of them, with no offset at all (4" in, 4" out), for a measly 100$ used. I took them to a body shop and paid another 100$ to refurbish them and all.
Now, I plan on getting 33x12.5x15s on them strictly for offroad use. TSL bias, boggers (new size as well) or TSL SSRs...what ever will fit...
I hope the boggers will go in. Tom is right about the more rubber is better offroad, and the 15ers are cheaper, easier to find that 5th scrappy spare (no need to get a brand new bogger spare, u won't need it!)...
I plan to run BFG ATs 265/75 for everyday use on the stock alloys!...
Ron, 37x13 boggers on the D110!...we are NOT worthy!
Ok...here are my calculations:
on the stock rim, my TSLs radials that are 10.5 inches wide barely rub the coil mount on the rear, and at 32.2" tall, do not hit anything, except for the rear fenders which are in the garbage now...
therefore, the maximum distance from the face of the bolts on the axle to the coil mount is ~6.5"...that means that I can mount a 12.5" tire with no problem regarding the inside of the vehicle...the question is the "inside of the outer sides of the wheel arches"...that is where I wil most probably have problems, but with a 5" rear lift, and a 4" front lift, and by extending the wheelbase by some 2" front and rear, and some cutting...well, hopefully i can get them in!
that is what i have been dreaming of for a while now...SSHH!...don't tell my girlfreind!

Thats enough wayne and garth.
At least you have your favorte trucks have an engine, my beloved 110 hybrid is sitting in a garage in a bunch of pieces. I will have to get some in progress pics to Ho. Right now it looks like a half a 110 although the OME LTRs and springs and new galvanized frame look pretty good with the old 109 dormobile body on them. Warm weather means more rover work so maybe I will make my MAR 2001 deadline. Hopefully I can get the new salisbury in there to replace the rover rear.
