I am trying to diagnose a jumpy speedometer on our discovery. Sometimes it jumps up and down while you are driving...other times it just drops to zero.

I was looking through the manual and came across the 'speedometer transducer', sure looks like the vehicle speed sensor in the picture. Is the speedometer transducer the same thing as the vehicle speed sensor?

thanks much

Kinda. Because the Disco's speedometer is electronically driven, the transducer is needed to convert the VSS (speed sensor) signal into voltage or whatever to send to the speedometer drive motor. A lot of people's speedo problems are solved by replacing the VSS... hope that helps some.

Try cleaning the connections on the transducer before rushing off and buying a new one. It cured my jumpy speedo.
