has anyone out there ever had a problem with a 97 SD 5-speed or auto for that matter. I have over 60K on mine and it has never been back to the dealer for more than routine maintenance. I was questioning whether or not I just got really lucky and have an awesome truck or if all 97 5-speed were as well put together? We know that the 95 LWB was one of the most reliable modern Rovers bulit. Is the 97 SD in the same class. I think it may be,what do you think?

Gil,
A lot of folks say that 97 was a great year for Discos. My 97 has treated my really well, too (kocking on wood...).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed... Just bought a '97 Disco with ~30K miles on the clock. So far the only problem is some rust bubbles where the C-Pillars meet the rear wheel wells. Hopefully the dealer will take care of it under warranty.

gil,
I would have to agree that the 97 Disco, and my 1994 Range SWB have been super....I know a couple of owners who had some minor mechanical probs with there 94-95LWB's, and many owners of pre-97 Disco's are dumping theirs for more common ways of commuting....

My '96 5-speed has been trouble free. Just be
sure you change the ATF at regular intervals.
Use a decent synth ATF like Redline D4. Don't
skimp on your R380. Replacements cost a lot in
the USA !

No probs with my 97 SD7, 57K miles.
The only thing I've had to do yet was replace the hose clamps on the power steering reservoir.

Call me naive, but what is an ATF

Also stop looking at a 96. Get a 94-95, 96s are generally more trouble than they are worth

Just the usual things on my '96 auto going wrong.....like leaking rear windows and a few exhaust gaskets replaced. My engine is tight as can be......no leaks. My '94 was much worse. Only had it for 8 months before it was totalled but I much rather would have my '96. Well at least so far......knock on wood. But I think it all just depends on how well it was taken care of in the past and if you are just lucky or not.

Until you need a valve job and then the little problems with 94-95 come into perspective.
