I keep hearing that it is a little tricky to make sure you keep the oil pump primed and have to be careful when changing the filter. Can someone please clarify all the steps for me. Thanks.

????????????
1. Drain
2. Pull filter
3. Fill new filter with fresh oil and replace
4. Refill oil in crankshaft

You're dead on, Steve. Just don't leave the filter off & oil drained for more than a few minutes & you'll have no problem whatsoever.

I've been changing the oil forever on my Disco and just do it like every other vehicle. Don't need to fill the filter....it spills when you tip it to install it. My prob. is that the drain plug is on the SIDE of the pan (DUH, LR)and the oil shoots to the side. Difficult to catch it with a pail. Any solutions to this problem?

Yeah, just open the plug slowly. When you get a small stream of oil, hold the plug in place for a little while, then remove it completely once the pressure starts dropping.

is this the same procedure for the 97 Disco?

Well yeah, a drain plug is a drain plug, there is no magic to it.

William:

If you meant the oil change procedure described in the top message, it applies to your 97 also.

HELP TO PREVENT OIL FROM GETTING EVERWHERE.

CUT THE BOTTOM OFF A WASHER FLUID JUG ON AN ANGLE FROM THE OPPOSITE OF HANDLE UP TO THE HANDLE, THIS ALLOWS YOU HOLD YOUR NEW CUSTOM FUNNEL, PROTECT EXHAUST FROM OIL, AND LEVES ENOUGH ROOM FOR WRENCH AND HAND TO REMOVE PLUG....

IN THE NEAR FUTURE I'LL BEING SELLING THESE FOR ABOUT $25.00.. SO GET IN LINE
