That is the question!! I have already decided against the self leveling rear suspension/self lowering step and the back seats packages. Is the ACE worth the extra $$$? The truck will be my daily driver and recreational 4x4. I have heard bad and good about the ACE...just wondering what you guys think. Is it just another thing to potentially break? Thanks in advance....this is my first post.

That depends if you stay on-road most of the time. If you do, then it is a no brainer, but if you off-road, then you wouldn't need it. It is a technological masterpiece, but is it really worth it?

That's what I thought guys. Thanks for the opinions. I imagine I will be around 2/3 on road and 1/3 off road, give or take a little either way. I think I've pretty much decided on the SE model because of the luxury items, but I'm not too keen on the idea of suede door panels!!

If you get a Disco 2, you have to put some locking diffs on it(ARB makes some), it makes a big difference. Also, Land Rover offers a skidplate package for it, get it. You also want some more aggressive tires. I would go with Dunlop Radial Rover RT tires. They are the best on-road/off-road tires out there. Get some Rovertym rocksliders too. You might want to remove the front spoiler as well.

Sorry for the newbie ignorance, but what is the front spoiler? I am scribbling your suggestions down in the notebook as I type!

check out Greg Davis' or Kevin Collins' pages in the Photogallery. Front spoiler is cosmetic (and aerodynamic?) piece below front bumper. This severly limits your approach angle, and usually gets mangled off road. If you're just casually recreating off-road, then it probably won't be a big deal. Same with locking diffs (locker sends all torque to the wheel with the traction) and skidplates. However, if you get into a situation where you may damage components off-road, you'll find that it would have always been cheaper to have skidplates, lockers, etc. to prevent damage. Upgrading tires is a great idea. If done right, it shouldn't have a negative effect for on-road manners at all, but it will have a definite positive effect off-road.

Check out some photos in the Photogallery - there are a few DIIs out there.

Don't get it.
Many years down the road ACE will like EAS on the classics suffer terminal failure. It will be hell to reconfigure the car back to non ace standards
