I was looking at the Southdown front axle guard and was wondering if anyone has any input on the pros vs. cons of using one. It looks like it protects well but, then also looks like it would act like a shovel in deep mud and make it very hard to get unstuck. Anyone have any advice/info?

I used to have one and got rid of it just for the reasons you listed. While it offers some nice protection, from rocks, it turns into a big plow in mud and sand

I've got one and like it for a few reasons, and conversely dislike it for one - on the like side - it protects alot of stuff with one part (track rod/damper/front diff) and on rocks and tree stumps it lifts you right up and over should you hit anything. It does plow mud, but not to an extent that's been a problem for me yet. The downside is durability - for the price, it should have been made from much thicker steel - I've bent/rebent mine many times now - sometimes have had to use a 25 ton press to reform it, and sometimes just a 2ft monkey wrench to pull the plate away from the front diff. I still like it for the total protection, but am looking at other options.

I have a Southdown Steering Guard and Axel Guard that I recently purchased. The steering guard is great, but the Axel Guard and my sway bar keep hitting when I go over bumps. Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas how to solve?

Joe
