After changing out the thermostat and heater hoses on my '95 Disc. 5-speed, I noticed that the tachometer was out (coincidence?). Sometimes I get a momentary spike up on the tach when starting -- otherwise tach is dead. No other obvious problems.

As usual, neither the factory Workshop Manual nor the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual have any useful information that I can find.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Norm

You might have knocked the tach connection lose on the back of the alternator.

Hey,
Your altenator is probably about to go out or has already gone out and you are running off the battery. If it is your altenator go to a place called Ameriparts and they will be able to give you the best deals on altenators, I got mine for $85.

...but more than likely you knocked the tach lead loose on the distributor, because I did the same thing when I put a new thermostat in my truck. Just make sure the plugs clicks (or at least gives some feel of connecting to something) when you push it back on firmly.
