I have a 96 Disco SD for the last few days everytime I lock the doors I hear a rapid clunking sound coming from the passenger side door lock. It makes the noise for about 2 seconds after the button goes down. All door locks lock and unlock and seem to work ok. Any ideas on what could be causing it and how to correct the problem would be appreaciated. Also any tips on how to take the door panel off without F-ing something up will help.
Thanks

I am waiting to find out what the answer is b/c my 96' is doing the exact same thing. All locks work fine fine but it appears the acuator is making a noise after I lock it.

mine too. I think its quite a common occurance since I see at least 5 on this web here who posted the problem. At least it reminds you when the door is properly locked.

Has anyone attempted to remove the door panel in order to replace the actuator and is it hard to replace?

I have taken the door panel off before. It is very easy to take off. It basically just pops out. It has a sort of styrofoam filler in it. (for sound?) When you pull it off there are about 2 dozen little plastic screws that hold the door on. Some of them may tear the strofoam so be careful. Very easy to do though.
Let's get a price quote on an actuator. The three of us can fix it together.

Just called my local LR center for a price on a front passenger side door lock actuator $121.93 (ouch) Part# AMR 3382 if anyone knows a cheaper place let me know. The parts guy also warned to adjust them properly otherwise it will unlock.

Do not go to the dealer. They always try to rip you off.
Try roverconnection.com.
I usually get around 20% less price than dealer for genuine parts.

my dealer gave me one for free, maybe I just have a cool dealer. It took em about 7 minutes to fix, no charge. Maybe if you are nicer to dealers, dealers will be nicer to you.
