I have a 95 Discovery with under 55k miles and while driving, the light came on steady. Engine sounds good but not good enough seeing the warning light on the dash. Anyone had this problem and what have you done to fix it. Probable causes maybe are: replaced the rattlin (round) cats to an aftermarket cat; 02 sensors???

Service Engine light at around 55k is probably just an indication that you need a regulalry scheduled maintenance. go get it checked out.

Ron,
It is preprogrammed to come on at 52,500 I belive, nothing is actually wrong. Go to the dealer and pay them money and it will go away, or else get some electrical tape.

See owners manual for more detail.

I just got mine done not too long ago.. It was about $119 at LR Grand Rapids.. They top up your fluids, change your oil.. Give you a smile and thats about it..

I think it is some agreement with the States for emmisions.. Not sure though..

Hope all goes well..

Ben,
How is the wobble? I thought of a way to check it. Change the tires one at a time and replace with the spare each time. Since I think you said it was Left rear try that first. This way you will know if it is the tire and can replace if necessary.

Butch,

I was unclear if you meant that you were planning on replacing the cats or if you already had. Anyway if you haven't yet changed them, they are covered under an EPA law. You have less than 80,000 miles and are obviously under 8 years, so you get free cats. I just had mine done a couple months ago. I had 79,XXX miles on my truck, If you want more information, e-mail me, and I'll dig up the URL for the EPA emissions law page.

Head to Pep Boys and they will reset it for you. The service engine light is very different than the check engine light. Service is just some routine maintenace stuff.....fuel filter, plugs.....that kinda stuff. Check engine means any number of things, but the computer has found something wrong. Could be like my truck....a misfire in cylinder 3 and a long warm up.....most likely a stuck thermostat. They charge $60 to stick a OBD II computer on it. Drove in and drove out in minutes. Or you can buy your own there for $200.

No problem Ben,
I was just thinking while comtemplating what would happen if one of the power kings blew up on the way home. What tires you getting? If you want street only I heard BGF Long Trails now come in 235 70 R16. Much cheaper than Michelins. I have them on the suburban.

Ben,
Sams Club stocks the BFGs Long trails too. Thats where I got the suburban ones. Great deal and it was done in 1/2 hour. Just don't plan on getting too far off road.

Hey Ron,

This poor guy thinks we are posting about his Service Light!

Anyways, Looks like I'm headed to Discount Tire to get it done, they are throwing 4 mich's on for $475 ou the door! Not to bad.. I do want some tread for off-roading. I live on right near the lake in Holland MI, so we get some pretty serious snow when it hits.. Thanks again!

Let us know if the wobble goes away. I would have posted a sub topic but I am technically challenged. 475 is a great deal on michelins. The BFGs absolutely go no where off road but they are great in snow (I lived in buffalo so I know a thing or two about snow). The michelins are great tires though too, never had any problems with the ones on the disco and got over 60k on a set.

Best Rgds.
Ron
