Hey,
A while back we had a discussion going on around Transfer case and pinion angles creating vibrations. On my truck with RT 3" lift and RT Trailing links w/all spacers installed, my rear pionion is at 0 degrees, and my transfer case output is at 2 degrees.
So, I think I need to remove spacers to get them more in line, but since my tcase is at 2 degrees, should I still be targeting my pinion at 3 degrees which has been stated as "spec", or should I try to match the 2 degrees as close as possible?

Well , your three degree measurement might be off. Was the truck leveled? If it was and thats what ya got and you are sure it is accurate then yes , match the two as close as possible. Are you having vib problems now?

Truck was level. Just to be sure, when I do the matching, I will test in the same spot.
On the vibes, yes..."grunking" noises coming from below when doing nuetral throttle or letting off all together. The faster the speed, the louder the noise. I have two new U-Joints in my stock, non-rotoflex rear shaft. Front shaft is a Tom Woods CV.

Typically the T case output should be around 3-4 , I guess your mileage may differ.. Again , that will just give you a ball park. You may still have to screw around with it to get the vibs gone all together..

Yeah. It is really mild, so I am not that concerned. Just something to fiddle with when I get bored. If the pinion angle doesn't do it, I'll probably start investigating the transfer case...

Ive got the "garunking" virus as well, at about 70 mph, backing off or laying on the throttle. I asked Bob Burns at LRU what he thought. He said "dont worry about it" its not that bad. I have had it for about 25,000 miles now. The only damage is that I need a new t-box output seal and a rear pinion seal. I dont know if its realted or not. I dont think it does much damage, but that garunk has to be something rubbing in a way it shouldnt, so one would have to beleive its accelerating wear somewhere in there...

In the original questioned asked by Tom, he is using all 3 spacers with a 3" lift resulting in a 0 degree pinion angle. With a 3" lift it is recommended to use the 2 thickest spacers, then checking pinion angle for 3 degrees up, adjust as necessary to get the correct pinion angle that gives no noise. Thats is the same process Scott is speaking of.

Finally got around to removing the smallest of the three spacers that come with the RT Trailing Links as John suggested. That did it, no more "grunnnking" or vibrations throughout the drivetrain (for now, at least). There ya have it. At least one case of RT 3" lift working just fine with stock rear prop shaft.
