Any advice on replacement tires and size for 96 Disco. I am only off road about 20% of the time and am currently looking at Pirelli Scorpion A/T & Bridgestone Dueler A/T. The Pirelli has the H speed rating, Bridgestone does not, any experience if this is a plus. Also looking at moving up to a 245/70, any pros/cons? I live in central Alabama so mud is the main concern when off road. Thanks for the help.

According to this site that is the largest size you will be able to go without trimming. I am going to be replacing my stock Michelins (which I do not like at ALL) with the Dunlop Rover R/T's. They make one that is not as aggresive as the R/T, but if you are looking to get into some mud this tire may be for you. A lot of the folks on this site use this tire. I have heard it is as quiet or less so than the stock tires. I have seen some good prices for them online too. Think you would have to go to a 245/75 and do a little trimming with the Dunlop's though. I tire size is really not large enough to worry about your speedo. I have used both the other tires you are talking about. Neither are really serious offroad tires and have relatively thin sidewalls. I would stick with Dunlop's or BFG's. They both make a great tire much better than the ones you listed and at reasonable prices.

If you want one that will fit better on a stock disco try 215 85 R16 (same height as 245 75 R16 only narrower). Very minimal trimming with that if any at all. Everyone likes dunlops.

cheers

Yes,

But so do 235 85 R16s. Remember 205 80 R16 is the stock size on the RRC and many non NAS discos. Tall and narra' gets you through as they say.

Cheers
Ron

Ron,
I think the 205s are going to be about 30.5 inches tall. As for equally tall, 235/85 is just as tall as the 245/75... I'm running 235/85 and the conversion is 31.8 in, but I've measured them aired up and they sit at 31.5... not too bad for application losses. A buddy of mine has 35s that are 33.5 tall... Bigger loss if you ask me.

Gabe,
http://www.dunloptire.com/tires/Rover_rt.html

Dunlops run short if anything. 235 85 R16 will be almost 32in 245 75 R16 or 215 85 R16 will be 30.5-31in

205 80 R16 is stock hieght

Stay away from Bridgestone's I had them on a Nissan 31\10.5\15 size they sucked in my opinion. very slippery when wet. Mud Don't ask nothing worse than having a jeep pull you out but atleast Iwas not in my Rover.
